Statement
by the International Union of Muslim Scholars on the Launch of the “Global Jerusalem Week” Activities
All praise is due to
Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our master
Muhammad, his family, his companions, and all who follow them in righteousness
until the Day of Judgment.
The International
Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), with the participation of a blessed group of
scholars, academics, and media professionals, and with the broad contribution
of institutions, organizations, and prominent figures from across the Islamic
world, announces the launch of the activities of this year’s “Global Jerusalem
Week”, under the slogan:
“Jerusalem
and Gaza… A Near Hope.”
This announcement
comes as an extension of a path the Union has adhered to since its founding,
having placed the cause of Jerusalem and Palestine at the forefront of its
priorities and as its central cause, bearing a religious and moral
responsibility to support it and to keep it alive in the conscience and
awareness of the Ummah—through word, stance, and action.
The activities of
Global Jerusalem Week are held annually during the last week of the month of
Rajab, coinciding with the anniversary of Al-Isra’ and Al-Mi‘raj and the Salah
al-Din liberation of Jerusalem. This year, its activities commence today,
Tuesday, 13 January, and continue until 19 January 2026, serving as a unifying
annual milestone that moves the cause from symbolic commemoration to a season
of action, mobilization, and guidance. It reflects unity of ranks and
integration of efforts among scholars, thinkers, academics, media
professionals, all segments of society, civil society organizations, and all
free people around the world.
The launch of Global
Jerusalem Week this year comes within an exceptional historical context,
coinciding with a nominal ceasefire in Gaza, following the exposure to the
world of the scale of brutal genocide and systematic destruction inflicted upon
our Palestinian people, amid major transformations unfolding in the region.
This occasion also
coincides with the anniversary of the Salah al-Din liberation, reaffirming that
Jerusalem has never been a marginal issue, but rather has always been—and will
remain—a central responsibility of the Ummah. The aggression against Jerusalem,
Gaza, and the West Bank, and against the site of the Prophet’s Night Journey
(peace be upon him), is an aggression against the very essence, conscience, and
mission of the Ummah.
As the
International Union of Muslim Scholars announces the launch of Global Jerusalem
Week this year, in the aftermath of Gaza’s steadfastness and the exposure of
the true nature of the Zionist project, it affirms the following positions and
obligations:
First: The Union extends its salutations and highest regard
to the fighters in Gaza, who stood firm in the arenas of confrontation in
defense of the dignity of the Ummah. It also salutes the steadfast people of
Gaza, the righteous martyrs who ascended with their pure blood, the patient
wounded, and the resolute prisoners, all of whom together have embodied honor
and set the true measure of dignity.
Second: The Union affirms that Global Jerusalem Week
represents a strategic opportunity to reorder priorities at the level of
individuals, institutions, and governments that express the will of their
peoples. Jerusalem must be at the forefront of concerns, and Gaza represents
the duty of the moment. This week should serve as a launchpad for sustained
action, not a passing occasion.
Third: The Union calls upon all institutions, organizations,
and active entities – each within its respective field – to engage practically
with Global Jerusalem Week by organizing activities, programs, and events,
issuing official statements, and utilizing the Week’s guide, ensuring diversity
and comprehensiveness of initiatives.
Fourth: The Union calls upon the scholars of the Ummah,
mosque preachers, and callers to Islam to dedicate the upcoming Friday sermon
to addressing the Ummah’s duty toward its first Qiblah, its responsibility
toward Gaza and the West Bank, and to emphasize that the post-aggression phase
is in even greater need of steadfastness, action, and reconstruction.
Fifth: The Union calls for the organization of large-scale
popular demonstrations throughout the Islamic world and beyond, following
Friday prayers and throughout the week, to exert continuous popular pressure in
support of Gaza, to reject the aggression in the West Bank, and to affirm that
the Palestinian cause remains alive in the conscience of the peoples.
Sixth: The Union stresses the importance of the cognitive
and educational dimension by correcting misconceptions, confronting the
discourse of normalization, entrenching the centrality of Jerusalem in
educational curricula and cultural and media discourse, and building an
awareness that protects the cause from dilution and oblivion.
Seventh: The Union calls for intensifying organized
humanitarian relief efforts for our people in Gaza, as an integral part of the
obligation of jihad with wealth, transforming giving into sustainable
institutional action and a fundamental pillar of steadfastness and resilience.
Today, Jerusalem
calls upon the Ummah, Al-Aqsa awakens consciences, and the blood of Gaza’s
children places everyone before the responsibility of a stance worthy of the
magnitude of the sacrifices. Those who remain steadfast in the field are, in
fact, guarding the dignity of the Ummah, safeguarding its present, and shaping
the contours of its future.
The International
Union of Muslim Scholars extends its sincere thanks and profound appreciation
to the esteemed scholars, and to the academic, intellectual, and media figures
who responded to Jerusalem’s call and participated in this conference, embodying
through their sincere stand the awareness and mission of scholars and their
loyalty to the Ummah’s central cause.
The Union also
highly commends the notable role of the media, and of the scholars, activists,
and journalists in the Islamic and free world, who revive Global Jerusalem Week
and transform it into a living action and a steadfast voice for Jerusalem and
Gaza in the face of distortion, normalization, and forgetfulness.
