Qatar
Hosts Two International Conferences: The Qur’an and Human Knowledge, and the
“Book of the Ummah” Series
The Department of
Islamic Research and Studies at Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic
Affairs, in cooperation with Qatar University’s Ibn Khaldun Center for
Humanities and Social Sciences, is set to launch two international conferences
today, Wednesday, focusing on the Holy Qur’an and the contributions of the
“Book of the Ummah” series in enriching Islamic knowledge and culture.
The first
conference, held under the motto: “It guides to that which is most upright” and
titled “The Qur’an and Human Knowledge: Towards Sound Human Understanding”,
brings together more than 18 scholars from across the Islamic world.
The conference aims
to reestablish the centrality of the Qur’an in guiding contemporary human and
social knowledge, to bridge the gap between Sharia sciences and the humanities
and social sciences, and to attract Muslim researchers from various disciplines
to derive Qur’anic insights and connect them to today’s intellectual reality,
thereby enhancing the Sharia-based understanding of social and human phenomena.
As the first in an
annual series dedicated to the Qur’an and human knowledge, the conference will
examine the Qur’an’s impact on shaping four key fields of knowledge: education,
sociology, psychology, and economics. It also seeks to encourage both Sharia
scholars and researchers in the humanities and social sciences to engage
methodologically with human knowledge and make effective use of it.
The second
conference, the First “Book of the Ummah” Forum, is held under the motto: “Book
of the Ummah: Enlightened Contributions… Renewed Giving.” It forms part of
the Department of Islamic Research and Studies’ efforts to enhance cultural
awareness among contemporary Muslims and guide them in addressing modern
challenges and seizing emerging opportunities.
As a strategic
cultural project that has spanned over 40 years, the forum highlights the
cultural legacy of the “Book of the Ummah” series, reviews its achievements,
examines its methodology, discourse, and ideas, and presents contemporary
perspectives on how to benefit from them.
The forum includes
eight research papers exploring ways to lay new cultural foundations for
rebuilding the contemporary Muslim personality in line with Islamic values,
harnessing spiritual, intellectual, and material potentials, and ensuring the
continuity of cultural and intellectual vitality.
The forum derives
its importance from the intellectual and cultural contributions of the “Book of
the Ummah” series, which has left a significant mark on the Islamic cultural
landscape at scientific, academic, and cultural levels.
