Croatia:
“Welcoming Ramadan” Brings Together 400 Women in a Quran-Centered Educational
Program

A women-only Qur’an recitation
competition was held as part of the fourth edition of the educational program
“Welcoming Ramadan,” hosted by the city of Dubrovnik in southern Croatia from
February 6 to 8, 2026, with broad participation exceeding 400 women from
various cities across the country.

Women’s
Qur’an Recitation Competition

The competition aimed to
encourage continuity in learning the Holy Qur’an, improve recitation
performance, and highlight the educational role of Qur’an circles supervised by
female instructors in local councils, reaffirming the Qur’an as a central
pillar in faith-based and educational development.

Structured
Educational Program

The “Welcoming Ramadan” program
spanned three days in a comprehensive educational format, reflecting a shift in
Islamic women’s work from limited seasonal activities to organized educational
and pedagogical projects with a clear national impact. The program was
organized under the supervision of female teachers affiliated with the Islamic
Community of Croatia, within an educational vision focused on early preparation
for the blessed month of Ramadan.

The event witnessed wide female
participation from several cities, including Dubrovnik, Zagreb, Split, Rijeka,
Pula, Sisak, Karlovac, Labin, and Umag, contributing to the removal of
geographical barriers and strengthening communication among women within the
institutional framework of the Islamic Community in Croatia.

Social
and Humanitarian Dimension

In addition to its spiritual and
educational aspects, the program played a clear social and humanitarian role by
providing a space for networking and relationship-building among participants,
fostering solidarity and mutual support. It also included charitable and
solidarity-based activities that emphasized the connection between educational
work and social responsibility, while reinforcing the values of giving and
compassion.

The fourth edition of the
“Welcoming Ramadan” program focused on spiritually and psychologically
preparing participants for the holy month through Qur’anic recitations,
religious lectures, and sessions of remembrance and devotional chanting. It
reaffirmed the program’s transformation into a comprehensive annual educational
initiative that integrates Qur’anic education, faith-based development, and
community-building within the Muslim community in Croatia.
