The 13th edition of the Grand
Quran Memorization and Recitation Competition was launched on Saturday in the
Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott. The event is organized by the Mauritania Radio
Network as part of its ongoing efforts to promote interest in the Holy Quran.

This edition introduced periodic
improvements in management and judging mechanisms, along with an enhanced
digital dimension. This year, the number of participants reached 2,434.
For the second time, special
judging panels were dedicated to female reciters, reflecting Mauritania’s
commitment to nurturing the Quran and its followers.
Competition organizers
emphasized that this initiative demonstrates the state’s dedication to
encouraging young people to memorize the Quran, wishing participants success
and further excellence in their journey of preserving the Holy Book.
Registration
and Competition Phases
The Mauritania Radio Network
announced that registration would open starting January 13, 2026, for ten days,
through a dedicated digital platform, in addition to available facilities at
regional stations, the Quran Radio, and Al-Mahadra Channel. Competitions will
be conducted under the supervision of the Scientific Council and specialized
judging panels.
The competition is organized in
two stages: preliminary rounds from the 5th to the 20th of Sha’ban, followed by
final rounds from the 1st to the 25th of Ramadan, culminating in honoring 63
winners.
The competition includes three
categories: full Quran memorization for participants under 35 years old, half
Quran for those under 18, and a quarter Quran (Buds category) for participants
under 12. Female participants numbered 16 reciters, and winners will receive
substantial monetary prizes.
