Al-Azhar Grand
Sheikh: Al-Aqsa Mosque an Integral Part of Muslim Identity, Warns Against
Attempts to Erase It
Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Dr. Ahmed
Al-Tayeb affirmed today, Friday, that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is “an
integral part of Muslim identity,” warning against attempts to erase its
identity and distort its landmarks, amid ongoing schemes aimed at altering its
historical and religious reality.
Al-Tayeb’s statements were made
in a post published on his official Facebook and X accounts, on the occasion of
Isra and Mi’raj, during which Muslims commemorate the miraculous night journey
of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to
Al-Aqsa Mosque, followed by his ascension to the heavens.
The Grand Sheikh emphasized that
Isra and Mi’raj highlights the great significance of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Islamic
belief, stressing that it “is not merely a historical symbol, but a fundamental
pillar of Muslim identity.”
He also warned against “division
schemes” and “efforts to erase identity and distort landmarks,” affirming that
Al-Aqsa Mosque “is a trust in the hands of Muslims, neither aging, falling, nor
ever erased.”
Al-Tayeb concluded his post with
a prayer, saying: “May Al-Aqsa Mosque remain steadfast, strong, and towering
every year; may the nation remain united, fraternal, vigilant, and full of
promising strength every year; and may you all be well every year.”
These statements come at a time
when the occupation has intensified its policies aimed at Judaizing the
occupied eastern city of Jerusalem, including Al-Aqsa Mosque, and erasing its
Arab and Islamic identity, since October 7, 2023.
