Young Muslim Men and Women in Bulgaria Participate in “The Mosque in My Life”
Competition to Strengthen Ties with Historic Mosques

The Republic of
Bulgaria witnessed broad participation by Muslim youth in the “The Mosque in My
Life” competition, organized by the Office of the Grand Mufti for the second
consecutive year. Nearly 200 young men and women took part in this cultural
event, reflecting the deep connection of younger generations to mosques and
their role in their lives.

The competition aims
to strengthen emotional and cultural ties to historic mosques and to encourage
young people to express the role of the mosque in their lives through art and
literature, contributing to the preservation of Islamic heritage and the development
of creativity among the youth.

Three Artistic Fields and Three Age Categories

Participants
competed in three main artistic fields: drawing, poetry, and essay writing,
across three age categories: 7–13 years, 14–18 years, and 19–25 years.

The drawing category
focused on five prominent historic mosques: Abu Bakr Mosque in Yambol, Sary
Hussein Mosque in Provadia, Kurshumlu Mosque in Silistra, the Clock Mosque in
Targovishte, and the Central Mosque in Veliko Tarnovo.

Awards and Official Recognition

The Office of the
Grand Mufti announced the competition results, awarding cash prizes to the top
three winners in each category and field: 80 leva for first place, 50 leva for
second place, and 30 leva for third place. The prizes will be distributed through
the regional muftiates according to the winners’ places of residence.

The Office also
expressed its thanks and appreciation to all participants, praising the
submitted works and the strong interest shown by the youth. It emphasized that
these contributions help preserve the memory of Bulgaria’s prominent historic
mosques and enhance their presence in public awareness.

“The Mosque
in My Life” competition is considered an important step in the cultural and
educational revival of Muslims in Bulgaria, as it contributes to building a
generation that is aware of its Islamic heritage and capable of expressing it
through contemporary creative means.

Such initiatives can
be further strengthened through broader support from the Islamic world by
exchanging expertise in youth and artistic programs, ensuring the
sustainability of these efforts in nurturing young people and reinforcing their
role in preserving Islamic identity.
