Abd al-Rahman Group in Senegal Calls for National Unity Amid
Economic and Political Challenges
The Abd
al-Rahman Group in Senegal issued a statement calling for the reinforcement of
national unity and the prioritization of wisdom in managing the current stage,
in light of what it described as “escalating economic and social challenges”
and “political tensions unsuitable for the country’s circumstances.”
Warning Against Disputes and Their Impact on Stability
The
group began its statement with the Quranic verse: “Do not dispute, lest you
fail and your strength depart” (Surah Al-Anfal, 8:46), highlighting the dangers
of divisions on the cohesion and stability of the state.
The
group considered that Senegal has been experiencing a sensitive phase since
2021, following the rise of the current administration to power with broad
popular mandate after a long democratic process. This, it emphasized, requires
the highest level of responsibility and focus on citizens’ core issues,
particularly the economic and social situation.
Concern Over Political Tensions and Their Effect on National
Unity
The
group expressed concern over the persistence of tensions within the political
landscape, warning that this environment could jeopardize national unity and
weaken the state’s ability to confront increasing challenges amid global
economic and developmental disturbances affecting developing countries.
It also
did not rule out the presence of “overt or covert actors” working to undermine
leadership cohesion, urging vigilance and a commitment to a unifying patriotic
spirit.
A Call for Dialogue and National Responsibility
The
group addressed its message directly to the government, political, and social
actors, calling for:
Strengthening
dialogue within the summit of power through regular consultation mechanisms to
ensure unified decision-making and avoid misjudgments.
Ensuring
the proper functioning of institutions while avoiding any practices that could
threaten stability or fuel division.
Political,
religious, and civil leaders to uphold their ethical responsibilities by
regulating discourse and rejecting tension.
Encouraging
citizens to adhere to national values such as solidarity, tolerance, patience,
and cooperation as a foundation for maintaining social peace.
The Abd
al-Rahman Group concluded its statement with a prayer for Senegal and its
leadership, asking God to protect the country, unify its ranks, and inspire its
leaders with wisdom and sincerity to ensure justice, growth, and stability.
