IUMS Calls for Fasting on Thursday in
Devotion to God and Solidarity with Gaza
Within the framework of its international scientific
conference held under the theme “Gaza: An Islamic and Human Responsibility”,
the International Union of Muslim Scholars has urged Muslims across the globe
to fast on Thursday, 5 Rabi‘ al-Awwal 1447 AH (August 28, 2025). The call is
both an act of devotion to God—since fasting on Thursdays is a Prophetic
tradition—and an expression of solidarity with the people of Gaza, who endure
siege, hunger, and thirst under relentless aggression.
Union President Sheikh Dr. Ali Muhyiddin Al-Qaradaghi
stressed that the scholars participating in the conference resolved to begin
with themselves by fasting in worship and supplication, as a demonstration of
the Ummah’s unity and shared suffering with Gaza. He emphasized that, had
access been possible, the scholars would have stood in the front lines beside
its people, but the blockade prevented that.
He underlined that this initiative reflects a position
of faith and morality, reaffirming that the Islamic Ummah will never abandon
Gaza regardless of the duration of the aggression. He further warned that the
occupation’s continued policies of killing, starvation, and genocide will have
dire consequences extending beyond Palestine, threatening the stability and
security of the entire region.
The Union, in cooperation with the Islamic Scholars
Endowment, is hosting this global conference with the participation of more
than 150 scholars representing 50 Muslim and non-Muslim countries. The
gathering embodies a unified scholarly stance against the crimes of the
occupation and reaffirms the commitment to defending Palestine and the just
causes of the Ummah.
The conference, which began last Friday, runs until
August 29, and will conclude with a major scholarly assembly in the courtyard
of Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul—affirming that the voice of the scholars
will continue to rise in truth in defense of Gaza, Jerusalem, and Palestine.
