International Scholars’ Conference
Discusses the Role of Political Movements and Civil Society in Supporting Gaza
As part of the activities of the International
Scholars’ Conference titled “Gaza: An Islamic and Human Responsibility”, a
specialized workshop was held on Sunday, August 24, under the theme: “The Role
of Political Movements and Civil Society Organizations in Supporting and
Advocating for the Palestinian Cause”, with the participation of a
distinguished group of scholars and intellectuals.
The workshop discussed the challenges facing the
Palestinian cause amid the ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip, stressing
that political movements and civil society organizations are required to move
from mere reactions to proactive initiatives that mobilize energies and employ
resources in service of Palestine.
The deliberations of the workshop
focused on two main axes:
First: The Role of Political Movements
·
Moving
from statements of condemnation to practical steps that pressure governments
and expose complacency.
·
Activating
parliamentary, union, and party tools to exercise legal, media, and diplomatic
pressure.
·
Making
the Palestinian cause a permanent priority in political agendas, away from
partisan calculations.
·
Unifying
the stance of scholars, intellectuals, and politicians to ensure its reflection
on the public sphere.
Second: Mobilizing Islamic Movements and
Civil Society Organizations
·
Unifying
and organizing popular efforts through joint events and mass campaigns.
·
Integrating
the Palestinian cause into daily media, cultural, and educational discourse.
·
Building
local and international political and human rights alliances that transcend
internal differences.
·
Drafting
a global social charter that defines current priorities and guides popular
mobilization.
·
Adopting
legal and diplomatic paths to prosecute the occupation in international and
national courts.
·
Leveraging
global popular support to expose the occupation’s crimes and win international
public opinion.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants
emphasized that the current moment is decisive and requires Islamic movements
and civil society organizations to lead the public with practical steps,
steering clear of division and disputes. They affirmed that Gaza does not await
statements of condemnation, but rather actions that restore the Palestinian
cause to its rightful place in the conscience of the Ummah and the world.
