Gaza Is the Responsibility of the Ummah
and Islamic States: Scholars Stress Urgent Duty of Support
· Scholars and thinkers:
Supporting Gaza is a real test of the legitimacy of Islamic states.
· Call for a
comprehensive boycott of the Zionist entity, opening border crossings, and
supporting the resistance.
· International Union of
Muslim Scholars: No excuse for negligence before God and history.
Scholars, thinkers, and researchers took part in a
specialized workshop titled “The Duties of the Islamic State Regarding What Is
Happening in Gaza,” held within the framework of the International Scholarly
Conference “Gaza: An Islamic and Human Responsibility” organized by the
International Union of Muslim Scholars in cooperation with the Waqf of Muslim
Scholars in Turkey, with the participation of leading scholars and
intellectuals.
Participants affirmed that the events in Gaza today
represent a true test of the status and moral and political legitimacy of
Islamic states, stressing that supporting Gaza is a religious, humanitarian,
and historical duty that allows no negligence or delay.
Causes of Government Failure
The workshop discussed the reasons behind the failure
of Islamic governments to fulfill their duty, most notably: subordination to
the Western system, military and economic weakness, absence of popular will,
prioritization of narrow interests, Arab and Islamic divisions, in addition to
restrictions resulting from normalization agreements and international
pressures.
Duties of Governments
The scholars proposed a set of urgent duties,
including:
·
Taking
clear political stances against the occupation.
·
Cutting
ties with the Zionist entity and imposing a comprehensive economic and
diplomatic boycott.
·
Opening
border crossings and providing humanitarian and relief support.
·
Supporting
the resistance politically and legally, while unifying the Islamic stance.
Mechanisms of Influence
The participants also recommended activating scholarly
and popular efforts to pressure decision-makers through: influential scholarly
delegations, organized popular movements, leveraging human rights and media
discourse internationally, and building alliances with active political and
social forces.
Role of the International Union of
Muslim Scholars
The workshop emphasized the role of the International
Union of Muslim Scholars in forming high-level scholarly delegations to visit
Islamic capitals, activating the Union’s political role, strengthening
partnership with Al-Azhar, and leading a unifying Islamic discourse that
reinforces the centrality of Jerusalem and Palestine in the conscience of the
Ummah.
Conclusion
The scholars concluded that states, scholars, and
peoples share responsibility, stressing that today’s duty requires using all
legitimate means to stop the aggression against Gaza, support the steadfastness
of the Palestinian people, and protect Al-Aqsa Mosque—without hesitation or
delay.
