The
Zionist Occupation Issues a Final Decision to Demolish a Building in Jerusalem
Housing 100 Palestinians, Including Sheikh Ikrima Sabri
On Wednesday, the
Zionist occupation authorities handed the residents of a residential building
in the Al-Sawana neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem a final demolition order,
giving them no more than three days to fully evacuate it.
The building houses
approximately 100 Palestinian residents distributed among 17 families,
including the family of Sheikh Dr. Ikrima Sabri, the preacher of the blessed
Al-Aqsa Mosque, President of the Supreme Islamic Council, and a member of the
Board of Trustees of the International Union of Muslim Scholars.
The building was
constructed in 1998; however, the occupation authorities issued the first
demolition order in 2003 under the pretext of “unlicensed construction.”
For more than two
decades, the occupation municipality imposed heavy financial fines on the
residents without recognizing the building’s legitimacy or granting the
necessary permits.
Last December,
occupation forces raided the building and issued an initial demolition warning,
only to return today with the final decision, marking a dangerous escalation
targeting the Palestinian presence in the holy city.
This decision comes
amid a systematic incitement campaign against Sheikh Ikrima Sabri by settler
groups, who have publicly demanded the bombing of his home after publishing its
coordinates on social media platforms.
The occupation
authorities have also previously issued several orders to ban him from Al-Aqsa
Mosque in an attempt to silence him and deter him from fulfilling his religious
and national role.
Observers warn that
these practices fall within the policies of Judaizing Jerusalem, emptying it of
its original residents, and targeting religious and national symbols in the
occupied city.
