100 International Organizations Warn: Open the Crossings Immediately to Save
Gaza from Famine and Aid Blockade
More than 100
international humanitarian organizations on Wednesday called on governments
worldwide to take urgent action to open all crossings with the Gaza Strip and
to facilitate the immediate and sufficient entry of humanitarian aid through a
UN mechanism. They stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and ending
the blockade imposed on the Strip.
In a joint
statement, the organizations said the siege by the Zionist occupation forces
forces relief workers to stand in food queues under the threat of gunfire,
while Gaza’s residents suffer from hunger and daily massacres, especially at
aid distribution points.
They pointed out
that since early July, the Zionist occupation forces have killed more than 875
Palestinians while they were searching for food, including 201 targeted on aid
routes, and the rest at distribution points.
The statement added
that vital aid—including food, water, medicine, and fuel—is piling up both
outside and inside Gaza without being distributed due to restrictions imposed
by the Zionist occupation, causing widespread famine and disease, especially
among children and the elderly, amid a severe shortage of essential supplies
and a near-total collapse of the health and environmental systems.
The organizations
affirmed that “the humanitarian system has not failed but has been
prevented from functioning,” noting that the average daily entry of trucks
does not exceed 28, a number insufficient to meet the needs of over two million
people.
The statement
criticized what it described as “empty promises” regarding expanding aid,
emphasizing that days are passing and death continues to claim more lives due
to preventable hunger and diseases.
The organizations
concluded with an urgent call to governments to take decisive steps, foremost
among them: imposing an immediate and permanent ceasefire, lifting the
blockade, opening the crossings, ensuring aid reaches all areas of Gaza, and
halting arms transfers to the Zionist entity. They stressed that partial
airlifts and piecemeal deals do not fulfill the moral and legal obligations to
protect civilians and save those who can be saved.
