Last Monday, hundreds of Indonesians protested in the capital Jakarta, demanding that the government prevent the Israeli team from participating in the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The tournament is being hosted by Indonesia, a predominantly Muslim country, from May 20 to June 11 in six major cities.

This protest comes in response to the oppressive policies that the Israeli occupation has been practicing against the Palestinians over the years.

Despite the fact that Indonesia does not have official relations with Israel and has expressed strong support for the Palestinian cause, officials have confirmed that the government will not prevent the Israeli team from entering its territory and participating in the tournament.

The day after the protest, the Hebrew newspaper “Israel Hayom” reported that Tel Aviv is in talks with four Arab and Islamic countries, including Indonesia, Somalia, Niger, and Mauritania, to normalize relations.
