65% of Moroccans in favor of wearing the Hijab

65% of Moroccans, including 62% of men and 67% of women, are in favor of the obligation to wear the veil, according to a recent study.

The survey was conducted between July 27 and September 12 with a sample of 1,061 people. Young people aged between 25 and 34 and between 35 and 44, of whom 69 and 68% respectively are in favor of the compulsory wearing of the hijab. Only 14% of Moroccans surveyed (15% women and 12% men), mostly aged 55 to 64, are against the compulsory wearing of the veil and 21% have no opinion on the matter, reports The Economist.

In total, 65% of Moroccans, including 62% of men and 67% of women, are in favor of the obligation to wear the veil. By geographical area, the majority of favorable people are found in the north and east of the kingdom (74%). The survey also collected the views of Moroccans on polygamy, a legal practice in the kingdom. 57% of respondents are against it, i.e. 69% of women and 45% of men.
