Turkish President Meets Scholars of “Gaza: An Islamic and Humanitarian Responsibility“ Conference
On Friday, August 29, 2025, in Istanbul, Turkish
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with a delegation of scholars participating
in the global conference “Gaza: An Islamic and Humanitarian Responsibility”,
organized by the International Union of Muslim Scholars in cooperation with the
Waqf of Muslim Scholars, with the participation of more than 150 scholars from
50 countries.
During the meeting, the Union’s President, Sheikh Dr.
Ali Mohieddin Al-Qaradaghi, delivered a comprehensive speech presenting the
recommendations and outcomes of the eight-day conference, which included 18
specialized workshops. He emphasized the necessity of unifying international
efforts to lift the blockade on Gaza and support the resilience of its people,
before officially handing the recommendations to President Erdoğan.
Al-Qaradaghi added that the Islamic and humanitarian
responsibility toward Palestine is not optional but an uncompromisable duty,
stressing that the conference reflects the scholars’ resolve to confront the
humanitarian and political challenges affecting the region.
President Erdoğan expressed a positive response to the
scholars’ proposals, emphasizing that Turkey continues to exert efforts to
support Palestine and to build an international coalition that upholds the just
rights of the Palestinian people.
In his remarks, Sheikh Muhammad Al-Hassan Al-Dadou,
Vice President of the Union, highlighted the humanitarian tragedy in Sudan,
calling on Turkey to intervene in support of the affected civilians, and also
raised the issue of political prisoners, notably Sheikh Rached Ghannouchi.
The International Union of Muslim Scholars considers
this meeting a starting point for a series of planned meetings with leaders of
Arab, Islamic, and international countries, as part of efforts to achieve
humanitarian justice and end the suffering in Gaza.
