Blooms with Qur’an Memorizers: Honoring 500 Hafiz and Hafiza in a Qur’anic
Parade at Al-Shati Refugee Camp
Gaza – In a scene
that revived the spirit amid the rubble, approximately 500 memorizers of the
Holy Qur’an participated in a Qur’anic procession and an honoring ceremony held
on one of the streets of Al-Shati Palestinian Refugee Camp, west of Gaza City. The
event reflected joy and resilience following two years after Israel’s
devastating war on the Gaza Strip.
The event was
organized under the auspices and execution of the Emergency Committee, in
collaboration with Ayadi Al-Khair Foundation and Alia Kuwaiti Charitable
Foundation, under the slogan “Gaza Blooms with Qur’an Memorizers”, sending a
clear message of the Palestinian community’s adherence to its religious
identity and core values despite harsh circumstances.
The Qur’anic
procession commenced within the camp to the sound of Takbirs and chants of
praise, with the hafiz and hafiza leading the participants in an impressive
display of organization and discipline, portraying a generation holding onto
the Qur’an as a path to life and hope.
Participants,
including children, teenagers, and young adults of both genders, carried
Qur’ans, Palestinian flags, and various banners, while residents lined the
streets, sharing moments of pride through applause and prayers—a human tableau
where tears blended with smiles.
The atmosphere
throughout the camp was filled with joy and celebration, transforming a street
once familiar with scenes of bombing and destruction into a space radiating
peace, in an event that resembled a public festival within a community burdened
by war and siege.
At the conclusion of
the event, certificates of appreciation and symbolic gifts were distributed to
the memorizers, with organizers emphasizing that the honoring is part of
community initiatives aimed at safeguarding religious identity and promoting
moral values, amid the difficult humanitarian conditions faced by Gaza’s
residents.
