Nigerian Imam Abu
Bakr Abdullah… Saved Hundreds and Led Dozens of Christians to Islam Before
Passing Away at 90
Renowned Nigerian Imam Sheikh
Abu Bakr Abdullah has passed away at the age of 90 in a local hospital, after
suffering from heart problems, according to Nigerian media reports.
Sheikh Abdullah was widely
recognized for his heroic role in protecting civilians during armed attacks on
his village in Plateau State in 2018, where he rescued dozens of people,
including Christians, and provided them safe refuge in his home and the mosque
he led.
During that period, he sheltered
262 individuals, telling the BBC: “I first took the women to my home to
hide them, then brought the men to the mosque.” When the attackers learned
that villagers had sought refuge in the mosque, they demanded he hand them
over, but he bravely refused, pleading with them through tears and shouting.
Local Muslims then joined him, prompting the attackers to withdraw.
His life was also marked by
religious influence, as dozens of Christians embraced Islam through his
guidance. In recognition of his courage and dedication to serving others, he
was awarded one of Nigeria’s highest national honors, as well as an American award.
Plateau State Governor Caleb
Mutfwang described the imam’s passing as “a profound loss” to the
community, praising his steadfast commitment to peace, unity, and protecting
the vulnerable, especially women and children.
May Allah have mercy on him,
grant him paradise, and place his blessed deeds on the scale of his good deeds.
