Palestinian Awqaf:
28 Al-Aqsa Raids and 57 Adhan Restrictions at Ibrahimi Mosque in January
The Palestinian Ministry of
Awqaf and Religious Affairs has released its monthly report on Israeli
violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Ibrahimi Mosque, and all places of
worship during January.
The report stated that the
occupation forces and settlers carried out more than 28 raids on Al-Aqsa
Mosque, in addition to implementing Judaization schemes affecting the site.
It explained that Israeli forces
restricted worshippers, particularly during the dawn prayer, detained young
men, and checked their IDs at the mosque’s gates and around the Old City, while
settlers continued performing public prostrations in the courtyards of the
Qibli Prayer Hall and the Dome of the Rock during Friday prayers, in blatant
violation of the sanctity of the site.
The report also noted that the
occupation authorities held a graduation ceremony for their soldiers at the
Western Wall (Al-Buraq Wall) adjacent to the mosque, in a provocative display.
At the Ibrahimi Mosque, the
report indicated that the occupation prevented the call to prayer (Adhan) 57
times during the month, maintained the closure of the Souq Gate and Eastern
Gate since the beginning of the year, fixed locks on service doors, restricted
the entry of some staff, and deliberately delayed the muezzin.
The forces also conducted
humiliating inspections of worshippers and staff, using offensive language,
escorted over 550 soldiers in civilian clothes to storm the prayer halls, while
excavation works continued in the Ashrafiyya Corner without clarification.
The Ministry confirmed that
these violations constitute a blatant assault on the authority of the Awqaf, a
threat to the sanctity of the Ibrahimi Mosque, an affront to Muslim feelings,
and an attempt to seize control of the site.
The report also highlighted
ongoing violations against other holy sites, including raids on Jawhar and
Al-Shuhada mosques in Hebron with internal inspections, and settlers spitting
on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, in a provocative act targeting
the Christian presence and its holy sites.
The Ministry concluded that
these practices are part of ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian
holy sites, aimed at restricting citizens and preventing them from performing
their religious rituals freely and safely. It held the occupation fully
responsible and called on international and human rights organizations to
urgently intervene to halt these violations and protect the holy sites.
