Prominent Muslim Organizations, Islamic Scholars and Civil
Society groups from India Issue Joint Statement on Palestine – Call on the
Indian government and Global Community to take decisive action against the
Ongoing Genocide in Gaza
New
Delhi: In a united appeal, major Indian Muslim bodies, religious scholars, and
civil society collectives have issued a joint declaration on the crisis in
Palestine, calling on both the Indian government and global powers to intervene
and stop the continuing atrocities in Gaza.
JOINT
STATEMENT ON PALESTINE
We,
the undersigned leaders of Muslim organizations in India, Islamic Scholars and
Peace-loving Citizens of India strongly condemn the deepening genocide and
humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza. On behalf of over 200 million
Indian Muslims and all peace-loving citizens of our beloved country, we express
our unwavering support and solidarity with the people of Palestine. We appeal
to the Government of India, international leaders, and people of conscience
worldwide to stand against the injustice and take swift action to end the
continued Israeli aggression.
The
relentless assault on the Palestinian people has taken the form of a brutal
genocide, characterized by systematic destruction of homes, hospitals, schools,
and refugee camps. Since October 2023, nearly 100,000 innocent Palestinians,
including a significant number of women and children, have lost their lives.
Alarming reports indicate that 90% of Gaza’s healthcare facilities are either
destroyed or out of service, with only a handful of nutrition centres left to
serve over 2 million residents. More than 17,000 children have been orphaned or
left without guardians, and over half a million have been denied access to
education. Meanwhile, thousands of tons of essential food and medical supplies
remain blocked at border crossings, and the collapse of water and sanitation
systems has triggered the rapid spread of deadly diseases. Without an immediate
end to the blockade, Gaza faces the imminent threat of widespread famine.
The
international community cannot afford to remain silent. We call upon all states
to sever military and economic ties with Israel and back the UN General
Assembly’s call to end the illegal occupation. We urge all Muslim-majority
nations to put strong pressure on Israel and US to halt this catastrophe.
India
has historically aligned itself with the oppressed; this is the moment to
reaffirm that legacy. We call on the Government of India to honour its
long-standing moral and diplomatic tradition by standing firmly with the
Palestinian people in their just struggle. India must denounce Israel’s brutal
actions, halt all military and strategic cooperation with it, and actively back
global efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region. We further appeal
to the Indian government to champion humanitarian assistance and demand the
urgent opening of humanitarian corridors to ensure the flow of essential
supplies – food, water, fuel, and medical aid – to the blockaded civilians in
Gaza.
We
call on individuals and institutions to boycott Israeli products and companies
complicit in this genocide. Civil society, educational institutions, and
faith-based organizations must amplify the voices of the oppressed and counter
the propaganda and misinformation being spread about the Palestinian struggle.
We also appeal to the people of India to participate in peaceful and lawful
resistance. Solidarity marches, awareness campaigns, academic discussions, and
interfaith solidarity gatherings must be organized to show that the Indian
conscience is not asleep. We must also ensure that support for Palestine does
not become a target for state harassment or suppression, and that citizens can
freely express solidarity without fear.
Let
our voice reflect not political expediency, but the principles enshrined in our
Constitution and the moral fabric of our civilization. Remaining silent or
neutral in the face of genocide is not diplomacy – it is a failure to uphold
justice. Now is the time to stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza. Let
our actions be driven by our commitment to justice and our heritage of
compassion. Together, we must speak out to prevent this humanitarian tragedy-
before irreparable damage is done.
