Qatar Issues Decision to Close Shops During Friday Prayers
Qatar’s
Minister of Commerce and Industry, Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, has issued
a decision requiring commercial, industrial, and similar public shops across
the country to close during Friday prayers.
Details of the Decision
· The
decision stipulates that commercial and industrial establishments are free to
operate throughout the day according to the working hours they deem
appropriate.
· However,
the competent department at the ministry, with the minister’s approval, may
require certain establishments to adhere to specific working hours when deemed
necessary in the public interest.
Closure During Friday Prayers
The
decision obliges commercial, industrial, and similar establishments to suspend
operations for one and a half hours, starting from the first call to prayer
(adhan) until the conclusion of Friday prayers.
Exempted Activities
The
decision does not apply to establishments engaged in the following activities:
1- Pharmacies
2- Hospitals,
health centers, and private medical clinics
3- Hotels
and accommodation facilities
4- Fuel
stations
5- Bakeries
6- Telecommunications
companies
7- Shops
located at ports of entry (airports, seaports, and land borders)
8- Airline
offices at airports and seaports
9- Electricity
and water generation and operation facilities

Activities operating on a
shift system
11-
Passenger and cargo
transport services by land, sea, or air
Any
other activities determined by the competent department in the public interest
Implementation
The
decision emphasizes that all relevant authorities must implement its
provisions, with enforcement starting the day after its publication in the
Official Gazette.
