Qatar.. Graduation
of the First Cohort of the Professional Family Mediation Diploma
The Supreme Judicial Council, in
collaboration with Qatar University, celebrated in Doha the graduation of the
first cohort of the Professional Diploma in Family Mediation. The program
included twenty family mediators who successfully completed an accredited
training course combining both theoretical and practical components, supervised
by the University’s Community Service and Continuing Education Center, and led
by Dr. Salem Al-Sheikhi, Advisor at the College of Sharia.
The graduation marks the
culmination of the diploma, which was launched in November 2025, featuring a
comprehensive academic and practical curriculum designed to equip participants
with advanced skills in managing and resolving family disputes in accordance
with the latest professional practices.
A
Comprehensive Vision for Enhancing Family Stability
During the ceremony, Dr. Salem
Al-Sheikhi, member of the Board of Trustees of the International Union of
Muslim Scholars, emphasized that the diploma is part of the strategic vision of
the College of Sharia, under the leadership of Dean Dr. Ibrahim Al-Ansari,
aimed at strengthening integration and partnership between academic
institutions and state entities, in line with Qatar’s Third National
Development Strategy.
He explained that the college
has launched a holistic approach to support family stability through three
interconnected initiatives:
· The
Professional Diploma in Family Mediation and Reconciliation.
· The
International Conference on the Islamic Charter for Family Mediation, scheduled
for November, in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development and
Family, the Supreme Judicial Council, and the College of Law at Qatar
University, aiming to establish a professional and ethical framework for family
mediation at local, regional, and international levels.
· The
“Marital Life Charter” course for couples preparing for marriage, based on the
principle of early preventive education and building a healthy family before
addressing potential crises.
Dr. Al-Sheikhi highlighted that
the diploma is distinguished by its practical approach, encompassing 60
training hours, with over 65% dedicated to practical application. The program
produced specialized working papers and a graduation project entitled: “Procedural
Guide for a Successful Family Mediation Model”, which will be submitted to the
Family Reform Office at the Family Court as a practical reference to support
institutional performance.
A
Strategic Step in Developing National Expertise
The program represents a
strategic step in preparing qualified national cadres in family mediation,
capable of handling disputes using modern and effective methods. This aligns
with the Supreme Judicial Council’s approach of prioritizing restorative justice
before litigation and supports the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 in
enhancing social cohesion and protecting family integrity.
Organizers affirmed that the
program serves as a cornerstone for improving the quality of work at the Family
Court and increasing the competence of personnel in applying reconciliation
strategies, mitigating the social and psychological impact of family disputes,
particularly on children. They also noted that the diploma is academically
accredited and offered regularly each semester to train new cohorts of
mediators.
A
Significant Addition to the Family Mediation System
The Supreme Judicial Council
stressed that the graduation of this cohort represents a qualitative addition
to Qatar’s family mediation system by preparing accredited mediators to work at
the Family Court and the Family Reconciliation Office, providing advanced
amicable alternatives for dispute resolution outside the litigation process,
thereby promoting family stability and societal balance.
