The Toronto District School Board has announced the launch of a comprehensive new strategy to combat Islamophobia in schools, which was unanimously approved by school trustees during their evening meeting last Wednesday.

This new strategy is part of the Board’s broader strategy to combat hate and racism in all forms. According to a report from the Board’s Human Rights Office, incidents of hate directed towards individuals based on their religion or creed account for 10% of all reported incidents, with Islamophobia alone representing 3%. Staff members will present a report and provide an update on the development of the strategy to TDSB’s Planning and Priorities Committee during its fall meeting.
