The Algerian parliament has announced the withdrawal of Moncef Baadene, its vice-president, from the presidency of the "Committee on Counterterrorism" in the International Parliament, due to Israel’s inclusion in its membership. This decision reflects Algeria’s unwavering stance on global justice issues, particularly the Palestinian cause. During the 146th General Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union held in Bahrain in March, new members were approved for the "Counter-Terrorism and Violent Extremism Committee," including representatives from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Mexico, Iran, India, Sweden, and Israel.

Despite withdrawing from the presidency of the committee, Algeria will maintain its membership. The committee has yet to convene to select its members, and the statement from the Algerian National People’s Assembly did not indicate the reason for the delay in announcing the decision. Algeria has made it clear that it rejects establishing relations with the state of Israel and calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
