Thousands of
Moroccans Rally in Support of the Freedom Flotilla and to Break the Siege on
Gaza

Thousands of Moroccans
demonstrated in the cities of Tangier (north) and Agadir (south) on Saturday
evening, in support of the Global Freedom Flotilla heading to Gaza, and to
demand an end to what they described as the genocide and starvation war committed
by Israel against Palestinians.

The two demonstrations were
organized at the invitation of the Moroccan Initiative for Support and
Solidarity (a non-governmental organization), and were joined by citizens,
activists, and human rights advocates from various groups.

Media outlets reported that
hundreds of participants in a sit-in continuing until midnight Saturday/Sunday
in Agadir raised slogans supporting the Global Freedom Flotilla, which aims to
break the blockade on Gaza.

In Tangier, thousands of
demonstrators marched through the streets of the city, declaring their support
for the Global Freedom Flotilla.

Among the slogans chanted were:
“Palestine resists,” “No to starvation, no to genocide,” “Rest in peace,
martyr, we will continue the struggle,” and “Shame, Gaza is being destroyed.”

Participants in the
demonstrations condemned Israel’s starvation policy, attempts to displace
Palestinians from their land, and the continued targeting of civilians in the
Gaza Strip.

Earlier on Saturday, the
International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza announced the departure of
the first ship of the Global Freedom Flotilla from the port of Bizerte in
northern Tunisia, heading towards Gaza.

The “Global Freedom Flotilla”
currently includes nearly 50 ships gathered in Tunisian ports, including a
Maghreb convoy of 23 vessels, in addition to 22 foreign ships carrying
participants from several countries in Europe, Latin America, the United States,
Pakistan, India, and Malaysia, according to flotilla spokespersons, activists,
and an Anadolu correspondent on the ground.

Israel has imposed a blockade on
the Gaza Strip for 18 years, leaving about 1.5 million Palestinians out of the
enclave’s 2.4 million people homeless after their houses were destroyed in what
has been described as a war of extermination.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel,
backed by the United States, has been carrying out what Palestinians describe
as genocide in Gaza, involving killing, starvation, destruction, and
displacement, while ignoring international appeals and rulings by the International
Court of Justice to halt it.

This campaign has resulted in
64,803 Palestinian deaths, 164,264 injuries—mostly children and women—hundreds
of thousands displaced, and famine that has claimed the lives of 420
Palestinians, including 145 children, as of Saturday.
