Supports the Steadfast Fleet to Break the Siege of Gaza Amid Israeli Aggression

Tunisians held a
solidarity vigil on Wednesday evening in front of the Municipal Theater in the
capital, Tunis, in support of the “Global Steadfast Fleet” aimed at
breaking the siege on Gaza, coinciding with the Israeli forces’ blockade of its
ships
.

The vigil was called
for by the “Joint Action Coordination for Palestine,” the organizer
of the Maghreb Steadfast Fleet, and was attended by dozens of Tunisians who
emphasized the importance of international popular pressure to support the fleet
and enable it to reach Gaza
.

Earlier on
Wednesday, Israeli forces raided six ships heading to the Gaza Strip, assaulted
activists, and detained dozens, according to the organizers
.

Activist Jawaher
Shana, participating in the Maghreb Steadfast Fleet, said: “We must all
mobilize to support the fleet and defend it against any aggression, and to
exert pressure so it can reach Gaza,” adding that “28 Tunisians are part of the
fleet, and their lives are at risk
.”

She further stated:
“Perhaps with global popular pressure, some ships will reach Gaza, for
Palestine and to stop the brutal extermination
.”

Participants held
several slogans during the vigil, including: “No fear, no terror, the fleet is
protected by the people,” “Greetings from Tunisia to our fleet of freedom,” and
“Freedom, freedom for our fleet
.”

The vigil in Tunisia
coincided with massive demonstrations in major cities worldwide, including
Rome, Brussels, and Istanbul, protesting the Israeli attacks on the Steadfast
Fleet
.

International
organizations, including Amnesty International, called for protection for the
fleet, while the United Nations affirmed that any attack on it is “unacceptable
.”

Israeli forces have
previously engaged in acts of piracy against ships heading to Gaza, seizing
some vessels and detaining activists
.

This collective
attempt marks the first of its kind, as dozens of ships seek to reach Gaza,
home to approximately 2.4 million Palestinians, in an effort to break the
18-year blockade, which has left around 1.5 million Palestinians homeless
following widespread destruction of their homes
.

Since October 7,
2023, Israeli forces, with U.S. support, have been committing a genocide in
Gaza, resulting in the deaths of more than 66,000 Palestinians and injuries to
over 168,000 others, most of them children and women, while famine has claimed
the lives of 455 Palestinians, including 151 children
.
