The
\nInternational Union of Muslim Scholars follows with deep concern the trial of
\nHis Eminence Sheikh Ikrima Sabri \u2013 the preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque, President of
\nthe Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem, and a member of the Union\u2019s Board of
\nTrustees \u2013 which represents a serious precedent and a direct assault on
\nreligious authorities in Palestine.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

While
\nthe Supreme Islamic Council, together with scholars, preachers, and religious
\ninstitutions in Jerusalem, reiterates its call to religious and scholarly
\nbodies worldwide to stand in solidarity with Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, the Union
\nemphasizes that any attack on His Eminence constitutes an assault on all
\nscholars of the Ummah, and targets one of the voices of truth that has never
\nceased defending Al-Aqsa Mosque and its Islamic identity.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Sheikh
\nIkrima Sabri represents one of the main pillars of religious authority in
\nPalestine, and any attempt to undermine him is essentially an attempt to
\nsilence the legitimate, free stance regarding the continuous violations against
\nAl-Aqsa Mosque by the occupation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore,
\nthe Union calls upon the Islamic Ummah \u2013 particularly its leaders, scholars,
\nscholarly bodies, and Islamic and human rights organizations worldwide \u2013 to
\nsupport Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, express a unified stance rejecting these arbitrary
\nmeasures, affirm the necessity of protecting scholars and preachers who fulfill
\ntheir religious duty in defending the holy sites, and urges the immediate
\ncessation of this trial.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
