Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan
\nannounced the appointment of Istanbul\u2019s Mufti, Dr. Safi Arbagush, as the Head
\nof Religious Affairs in Turkey, succeeding the former president, Ali Erba\u015f,
\nfollowing the completion of his term<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

This decision was published in the Turkish
\nOfficial Gazette early Thursday<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Arbagush is considered one of Turkey\u2019s
\nprominent academic and religious figures. He was born in 1967 in Amasya, in the
\nnorth of the country, and graduated from the Imam Hatip High School in 1985
\nbefore completing his studies at the Faculty of Sharia at Marmara University in
\n1990<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He began his academic career at the same
\nuniversity in 1992 as a research assistant, earning his master\u2019s degree in 1994
\nand his doctorate in 2001. He received the title of Assistant Professor in 2008
\nand was promoted to full Professor in 2014. He also served as Vice Dean of the
\nFaculty of Sharia at Marmara University between 2011 and 2021<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In mid-October 2021, Dr. Arbagush was
\nappointed as Istanbul\u2019s Mufti by presidential decree, becoming one of the
\ncountry\u2019s most prominent religious figures, before his recent promotion to head
\nthe Directorate of Religious Affairs<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
