Tunisian Ennahda Movement
\nleader, Rached Ghannouchi, said on Sunday, marking a thousand days since his
\nimprisonment, that \u201cautocracy and exclusion are two sides of the same coin,\u201d
\ncalling for adherence to \u201cpeaceful struggle for a free Tunisia.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Ghannouchi\u2019s statements were
\nmade in a message published by the Ennahda Movement on its official Facebook
\npage. The former speaker of the Tunisian parliament affirmed that \u201chis ordeal
\nhas become a measure of the commitment of different parties to the principles
\nof democracy and citizenship.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He added that since its
\nfounding, the Ennahda Movement \u201chas never imposed a veto against any party,
\ninside or outside the country,\u201d noting that \u201cthe mistake was not in recognizing
\na political party, but in arresting another,\u201d emphasizing that the movement
\nbelieves \u201cfreedom encompasses everyone.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Ghannouchi has been in prison
\nsince his arrest on April 17, 2023, following a raid on his home, on charges of
\ninciting threats to state security. He has received several prison sentences in
\nvarious cases.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In a related development,
\nTunisian authorities arrested former lawyer and parliamentarian Seifeddine
\nMakhlouf following his deportation from Algeria.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, families of
\nseveral \u201cpolitical\u201d prisoners from diverse backgrounds announced last Wednesday
\nthe formation of a coordination body aimed at \u201cunifying efforts\u201d to advocate
\nfor their release.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The announcement came on January
\n14, 2026, a symbolic date coinciding with the fifteenth anniversary of the fall
\nof former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali\u2019s regime following a popular
\nuprising.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
