As the sacred month of Muharram begins and
\nthe new Hijri year 1447 AH dawns, the International Union of Muslim Scholars
\nannounces the launch of Hijrah Week, under a unifying theme that links the
\nHijrah and Ashura, connecting a glorious past with a wounded present<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span>On the Anniversary of Hijrah and
\nAshura… Gaza Renews the Call<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

This is a momentous occasion in which we
\ncommemorate two great events in the history of our Ummah<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The Prophet\u2019s<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> \ufdfa <\/span><\/span>Hijrah, which marked a pivotal turning point in
\nthe path of the Islamic message, and the Day of Ashura, which witnessed the
\ndeliverance of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) and his people from the
\ntyranny of oppressors<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Through this remembrance, we draw
\ninspiration from the values of steadfastness, patience, sacrifice, and triumph
\nover injustice\u2014values that revive the hearts of the Ummah and awaken its
\nconsciousness in the face of contemporary challenges, foremost among them the
\nsiege, aggression, and occupation endured by steadfast Gaza<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\nWeek is a call to revive the core values upon which the Hijrah was founded<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>:<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Support for the oppressed<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Nation-building<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\nwill feature a rich program of scholarly, religious, and media activities, open
\nto participation from scholars, preachers, thinkers, institutions, and Islamic
\norganizations around the world. Together, they will reflect on the lessons of
\nHijrah and Ashura, relate them to the current state of the Ummah\u2014particularly
\nin Gaza and Palestine\u2014and across the Muslim world<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
