The 2026 Asia-Pacific Scholars
\nForum recently commenced in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, under the
\ntheme \u201cUnity of the Ummah and Support for Al-Aqsa and Palestine.\u201d The event
\nwitnessed wide official and scholarly participation, including Malaysia\u2019s
\nMinister of Religious Affairs, Dr. Zulkifli Hassan, Deputy Minister of Natural
\nResources and Environmental Sustainability, Mr. Syed Ibrahim Syed Noah, as well
\nas parliamentary and religious leaders. Key attendees included Dr. Salem Safaq
\nAl-Jifri, Vice President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, and Dr.
\nMarwan Abu Ras, Chairman of the Jerusalem and Palestine Committee, alongside a
\ndistinguished group of scholars and thinkers from across Asia and the Pacific
\nregion.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The forum aims to develop a
\njoint action plan to support the Palestinian cause and enhance coordination
\nbetween scholarly bodies and non-governmental organizations in the Asia-Pacific
\nregion, thereby contributing to the unification of the Islamic Ummah\u2019s efforts
\nin confronting Israeli aggression and its political and humanitarian
\nconsequences.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Official Stances and Calls for a Unified Regional Position<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Malaysian officials and leaders
\nof Islamic organizations across Asia and the Pacific called on regional
\ngovernments to adopt positions that reflect the aspirations of their
\npopulations in support of Palestine, warning against the continued absence of a
\ndecisive and unified stance from regional organizations, particularly the
\nAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), regarding Israeli occupation
\ncrimes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Minister of Religious Affairs
\nDr. Zulkifli Hassan emphasized that the Palestinian issue represents a matter
\nof justice and human dignity, not merely a humanitarian file. He reaffirmed
\nMalaysia\u2019s commitment to continuing its political and diplomatic efforts to end
\nthe occupation, while criticizing Western countries for abandoning their
\nresponsibilities in supporting and funding international refugee-related
\nbodies.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

International Union of Muslim Scholars: The Voice of the People
\nOver Narrow Interests<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Salem Safaq Al-Jifri, Vice
\nPresident of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, stressed that
\ngovernment positions in Southeast Asia must reflect popular will in support of
\nPalestinian independence, recalling the international experience of dismantling
\nSouth Africa\u2019s apartheid regime through popular and ethical pressure.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Jifri criticized the
\nparticipation of certain governments, particularly Indonesia, in the so-called
\n\u201cPeace Council\u201d sponsored by the United States to manage the Gaza Strip, noting
\nthat such steps lack popular consensus. He affirmed that peoples, through
\ndemocratic means, are capable of correcting official policies when they deviate
\nfrom the path of justice.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Jerusalem at the Forefront of Scholarly and Advocacy Efforts<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Marwan Abu Ras, Chairman of
\nthe Jerusalem and Palestine Committee, underlined that unifying the efforts of
\nscholars and Islamic institutions is a fundamental pillar in supporting the
\nUmmah\u2019s causes, particularly the Palestinian issue and the defense of the
\nAl-Aqsa Mosque. He called for translating scholarly and advocacy positions into
\npractical, sustainable, and impactful programs.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The forum\u2019s convening comes amid
\nescalating Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people and declining
\ninternational support for refugees, highlighting the urgent need for a more
\ncohesive Islamic and regional stance that moves from condemnation to organized
\nand responsible action.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
