Kuala Lumpur Prepares to Host 72 Contestants from 50 Countries

The Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, will
\nhost next month the 65th edition of the International Quran Recitation and
\nMemorization Award (MTHQA), featuring 72 contestants from 50 countries. The
\nevent will take place at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) under the
\ntheme: “Towards a Civilized Nation (MADANI).”<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The event will be officially inaugurated
\nby Prime Minister Dato\u2019 Seri Anwar Ibrahim on August 2nd.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Mohamed Na\u2019im Mokhtar, Minister of
\nReligious Affairs at the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, explained that 40
\nparticipants will compete in the recitation category, while 32 will participate
\nin the memorization category. This follows an electronic selection stage held
\nfrom May 19 to 23, supervised by an expert judging panel to ensure fairness.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

A judging panel of 16 judges from
\nMalaysia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Indonesia will evaluate the
\nparticipants.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The judging criteria for the recitation
\ncategory include Tajweed (Quranic pronunciation rules), melodies, eloquence,
\nand voice quality. In the memorization category, the focus is on accuracy of
\nmemorization and smoothness of delivery.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Mohamed Na\u2019im pointed out that the
\ntheme reflects Malaysia\u2019s vision of building a civilized society that combines
\nspiritual and ethical development with urban progress.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Malaysia has been a leading country in
\norganizing this event since 1961 and was awarded the Best Quranic Program in
\n2016 by the State of Kuwait.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The program also includes a unique
\ninitiative featuring a continuous recitation of the Quran starting from KL
\nSentral station in Kuala Lumpur and extending to the city of Hat Yai in
\nThailand, aiming to set a record for the longest connected Quran recitation
\nacross national borders.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The first-place winner will receive a
\ncash prize of 40,000 Ringgit, the second place 30,000 Ringgit, and the third
\nplace 20,000 Ringgit, in addition to jewelry gifts presented by the YaPEIM
\nFoundation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
