The Council of Scholars of Iraq
\nconcluded a specialized scientific course titled \u201cMaqasid al-Sharia and Its
\nApplications in the Da\u2018wah Context\u201d, delivered by His Eminence Dr. Wasfi Ashour
\nAbu Zaid, member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, on Monday, 21
\nSha\u2019ban 1447 AH, corresponding to 9 February 2026, at the Council\u2019s
\nheadquarters in Baghdad.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The course is part of the
\nCouncil\u2019s developmental plan aimed at enhancing the academic and methodological
\nlevel of students of Islamic knowledge. It also reflects the growing interest
\nin Maqasid studies and the need for a conscious da\u2018wah discourse grounded in
\nthe principles and overarching objectives of Sharia, while responding
\neffectively to contemporary societal challenges.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The course witnessed active
\nparticipation from male and female students of Islamic knowledge from Baghdad
\nand several other Iraqi provinces, demonstrating their eagerness to benefit
\nfrom the insights of Maqasid studies and apply them in da\u2018wah work, education,
\nand media discourse.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Understanding Maqasid: Depth and Insight<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

During his lectures, Dr. Wasfi
\nAshour Abu Zaid addressed a range of scholarly topics, focusing on the
\nfoundational concept of Maqasid al-Sharia and its role in understanding Islamic
\ntexts and applying them to real-world contexts. He emphasized that neglecting
\nthe Maqasid can lead to misunderstandings or disruptions in da\u2018wah practice.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He also stressed the importance
\nof integrating Maqasid principles in da\u2018wah work, particularly in societies
\nexperiencing rapid intellectual and social transformations. He highlighted the
\nnecessity of maintaining a balance between textual sources and public interest,
\nas well as between constants and variables, to achieve the Sharia\u2019s overarching
\nobjectives.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Live Questions and Discussions<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The course featured active
\nscholarly engagement from participants through discussions and questions
\nregarding the mechanisms for implementing Maqasid in the fields of da\u2018wah,
\neducation, and media. Participants also explored the challenges posed by multiple
\nintellectual references and the spread of unregulated religious discourse
\nthrough social media.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the course,
\ncertificates of participation were distributed to the students, signed by the
\nlecturer and stamped by the Council of Scholars of Iraq. Dr. Wasfi Ashour Abu
\nZaid was also honored with the Council\u2019s commemorative shield in recognition of
\nhis scholarly contributions and his service to students of Islamic knowledge.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The course was held on the
\nsidelines of the International Zakat Funds Management Conference, organized by
\nthe Council of Scholars of Iraq in collaboration with Al-Rukiza Foundation and
\nAl-Khair Foundation, as part of the Council\u2019s efforts to link theoretical
\nknowledge with practical applications in vital issues affecting society.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
