The
\nInternational Union of Muslim Scholars has urged the esteemed Grand Imam of
\nAl-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, to intensify efforts to put an end to the ongoing
\ngenocidal war in the Gaza Strip, which has persisted for a full year without
\nany signs of abatement or cessation and has now expanded to Lebanon in an
\nunprecedented conflict.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a special
\nstatement to “Arabi21” on the anniversary of the Israeli war on Gaza,
\nDr. Ali Muhammad Al-Sallabi, the Union’s Secretary-General, confirmed that this
\nongoing aggressive war is leaving devastating humanitarian consequences and
\ncontradicts all divine laws and international regulations.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He pointed
\nout that the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation have crossed all limits
\nand red lines, with no firm stance from the international community to put an
\nend to this aggression.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Sallabi
\nemphasized that the lack of political will from global powers, particularly the
\nUnited States, which fully supports Israel, necessitates that the peoples of
\nthe Arab and Islamic worlds turn to their religious institutions to fulfill
\ntheir roles in protecting human lives, which Islam honors with a status greater
\nthan that of the Holy Kaaba.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

A Global
\nAlliance for the Support of Palestine and Lebanon<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Al-Sallabi
\nstated that what is needed today is an alliance of the scholars and leaders of
\nthe ummah with free peoples and nations that stand for truth and justice,
\naiming to persuade the International Court of Justice and the International
\nCriminal Court to criminalize the Israeli occupation and demand an end to its
\ngenocidal war against the Palestinian people, holding its leaders accountable
\nas war criminals.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He added
\nthat expanding the alliance of Arabs, Muslims, and advocates of freedom and
\njustice worldwide is essential to achieve justice for the Palestinian and
\nLebanese peoples, who are suffering from criminal aggression by an occupying
\nforce that has exceeded all red lines.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Sallabi
\nconfirmed that Al-Azhar remains an important Islamic beacon, not only for
\nuniting Muslims around common ground but also for leading a global effort to
\nend the genocide against Palestinians.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He
\nreferenced Al-Azhar\u2019s history of defending justice, citing the words of the
\nProphet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about the people of Egypt and their role
\nin fighting the Tartars, led by scholars such as Ibn Abdul Salam in the Battle
\nof Ain Jalut.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He also
\nmentioned Al-Azhar\u2019s role in resisting the French occupation led by Napoleon
\nBonaparte, as well as the sacrifices of the Egyptian people in revolutions
\nagainst British colonialism in 1806, 1882, 1919, and 1952, contributing to the
\ndefense of the Islamic homeland and their struggle for the sake of Allah.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Azhar’s
\nStance in Support of Palestine<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Ali
\nMuhammad Al-Sallabi praised the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar\u2019s position in supporting
\nPalestine, affirming that Al-Azhar and its scholars have played a significant
\nrole in confronting Zionists since the early days of the settlement project
\nduring British colonial rule.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He noted the
\nprotests of 1929 led by Al-Azhar\u2019s Sheikh Mustafa Al-Maraghi (may Allah have
\nmercy on him), alongside scholars and students of Al-Azhar, who condemned
\nJewish gatherings in Tel Aviv demanding, “The Western Wall is ours,”
\nevents that continue to resonate through generations.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He referred
\nto the massive popular rallies that erupted from the courtyards of Al-Azhar in
\nprotest against the British Royal Commission’s partition of Palestine in 1937,
\nreflecting their responsibility and loyalty to the nation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Sallabi
\nadded that Al-Azhar has consistently demonstrated its honorable positions
\nagainst the struggle against the Zionists, recalling the late Sheikh Abdul
\nHalim Mahmoud\u2019s (may Allah have mercy on him) pivotal role in mobilizing
\nnational spirit among Egyptians and supporting the political leadership in
\nEgypt during the October War of 1973.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Azhar
\nas a Beacon of Hope for the Oppressed in Palestine<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Ali
\nMuhammad Al-Sallabi affirmed that Allah has prepared the necessary conditions
\nfor Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, to assume the
\nresponsibility of leading Al-Azhar, which holds a significant status in the
\nconscience of the Egyptian people and the Islamic nation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He expressed
\nconfidence in the Grand Imam’s ability to fulfill his role in defending the
\nvalues and principles of the Egyptian people and the Islamic nation, and in
\ncalling for an end to the criminal aggression against the Palestinians.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Sallabi
\nstated, “The hopes of the oppressed in Palestine, and the hopes of the
\nfree in this nation, are firmly placed upon your courageous stances, the noble
\nspirit of the Egyptian people, and the pivotal role of Egypt in addressing
\ninjustices and supporting the oppressed, which future generations of Muslims
\nand free peoples will never forget, with great rewards from Allah.”<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He added,
\n“O esteemed Sheikh of Al-Azhar, your fatwas and statements regarding the
\nrecent events in Gaza have had a profound impact on the free people of the
\nworld, the Islamic nation, and the Palestinian people. Your address was one of
\nthe strongest speeches, and your voice one of the loudest in support of the
\nPalestinian victims, as your words touched hearts and ignited hope in souls,
\nreflecting the scale of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.”<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Azhar’s
\nSupport to Confront Aggression<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Ali
\nMuhammad Al-Sallabi, the Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim
\nScholars, clarified that Egypt, with its people and political, military, and
\nsecurity institutions, is in urgent need of a powerful humanitarian discourse
\nderived from spiritual and moral values. He emphasized the importance of
\nsupporting Al-Azhar in unleashing the spiritual and moral energies to assist
\nthe oppressed in Gaza.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He stressed
\nthat this support should encompass scientific, spiritual, and moral backing
\nbased on the jurisprudence of calamities to alleviate the collective punishment
\nof the vulnerable.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

On the
\nground, Israel has expanded its genocidal campaign since September 23, 2023, to
\ninclude most areas of Lebanon, including the capital, Beirut. It has launched
\nunprecedented airstrikes in terms of intensity and brutality, alongside
\ninitiating a ground incursion in southern Lebanon, ignoring international
\nwarnings and UN resolutions.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Israel
\nContinues Bombing in Lebanon and Gaza<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

According to
\nofficial figures, Israeli airstrikes since the beginning of mutual shelling
\nwith Hezbollah on October 8, 2023, have resulted in the deaths of 2,044
\nindividuals and injuries to 9,678 others, including 1,212 fatalities and 3,427
\ninjuries, with a significant number of casualties among children and women.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The number
\nof displaced persons has exceeded 1.2 million since the onset of the extensive
\nwar on Lebanon on September 23 until Sunday evening.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

At the same
\ntime, today marks the first anniversary of the start of the Israeli war,
\nsupported by the U.S., in Gaza, which has thus far resulted in over 139,000
\nPalestinian casualties, in addition to more than 10,000 missing persons, amidst
\nimmense destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children
\nand the elderly.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Tel Aviv
\ncontinues to carry out its genocidal campaign, disregarding the UN Security
\nCouncil’s resolution to end it immediately and the International Court of
\nJustice’s orders to take measures to curb acts of “genocide” and
\nimprove the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
