A presidential decree signed by Turkish President
\nRecep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan has appointed former Head of Turkey\u2019s Directorate of
\nReligious Affairs, Professor Dr. Mehmet G\u00f6rmez, as the President of the Turkey
\nInternational University of Islam, Science, and Technology.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Launching a Scientific Project<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

On this occasion, Dr. G\u00f6rmez wrote in a tweet on X
\n(formerly Twitter) that the university, since its legal establishment and
\nendowment in 2015, had remained like a seed awaiting the moment to sprout. He
\nnoted that today, at the heart of Istanbul and in the vicinity of the historic
\nSultan Ahmed Square, the university takes its first practical steps toward real
\nfoundation and fruitful growth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Presidential Trust and Gratitude<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

G\u00f6rmez expressed his gratitude to God for this trust,
\nthen thanked President Erdo\u011fan for his confidence in assigning him this
\nresponsibility. He emphasized his aspiration for the university to be based on
\nthe deep Islamic and civilizational memory that forms the core of Istanbul\u2019s
\nidentity, and to serve as an academic space linking authentic cultural heritage
\nwith human understanding of meaning, value, and responsibility.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A Comprehensive University Vision<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

He clarified that the university does not aim to focus
\nsolely on religious sciences, but seeks to provide an integrated knowledge
\nmodel where religious sciences intersect with humanities, natural sciences, and
\ntechnology within a holistic civilizational vision. The university will also
\nbuild a strong research institution primarily focused on postgraduate studies,
\ncapable of forming international academic partnerships and producing advanced
\nknowledge that serves the future of the nation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

G\u00f6rmez affirmed that the ultimate goal is to create a
\nscholarly environment bringing together students, researchers, and academics
\nfrom around the world around a shared civilizational language, making knowledge
\nbeneficial, values enduring, and goodness universal. He expressed gratitude to
\nall who will contribute to this scientific renaissance from Turkey, the Islamic
\nworld, and other brotherly and friendly countries, invoking God\u2019s blessing on
\nthe project and the pursuit of knowledge in Istanbul.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It is worth noting that Dr. Mehmet G\u00f6rmez served as
\nDeputy Head of Turkey\u2019s Directorate of Religious Affairs in 2003, and as its
\nHead from 2010 to 2017. He currently holds the positions of Vice President of
\nthe International Union of Muslim Scholars and President of the Institute of
\nIslamic Contemplation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Born in 1959 in the district of Nizip, Gaziantep
\nProvince, G\u00f6rmez graduated from the Faculty of Sharia at Ankara University in
\n1987. He earned his master\u2019s and doctoral degrees, lectured at several
\nuniversities, and is fluent in Arabic and English alongside Turkish. He has
\nauthored numerous works in religious sciences.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
