Leaning on his cane and
\naccompanied by his lawyers Khaled Zbarqa and Hamza Qattina, the preacher of
\nAl-Aqsa Mosque, head of the Islamic Supreme Council in Jerusalem, and member of
\nthe Board of Trustees of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh
\nIkrima Sabri, left the interrogation section of Muskobiya Prison following a
\nsummons over a religious statement in which he opposed the closure of Al-Aqsa
\nand the suspension of Friday prayers under the pretext of a state of emergency.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Aqsa Closure<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Sheikh Sabri appeared for
\nquestioning on Friday for two hours before being released under conditions
\nincluding a 15-day ban from the Old City, a personal guarantee, and an
\nobligation to return if summoned again. Upon his release, the 87-year-old
\ncleric stated that the reason for his summons was his religious stance: \u201cI said
\nthat it is not permissible to close Al-Aqsa or suspend Friday prayers, and this
\nis my religious opinion.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He noted that the Israeli Home
\nFront instructions, issued at the start of the war on Iran, included
\nprohibitions on gatherings and the closure of Al-Aqsa, which prevented the
\nholding of Friday prayers. He described the situation as worrying, highlighting
\nthat hundreds of thousands of Muslims were deprived of prayer, particularly
\nduring the holy month of Ramadan.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Sheikh Sabri emphasized that
\nclosing Al-Aqsa is \u201cunjustified and illegal,\u201d rejecting all measures that limit
\nMuslims\u2019 right to worship. He called on the Muslim community to remember the
\nimportance of Al-Aqsa and to maintain prayers there: \u201cIt is not permissible to
\nsuspend the ritual of prayer, which is a pillar of Islam.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Summons of Sheikh Sabri<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

His lawyer, Khaled Zbarqa,
\nstated that the summons is objectionable and has no legal basis. It was issued
\nsolely because of the Sheikh\u2019s religious opinion regarding mosque closures and
\nis considered an objection to exploiting regional circumstances to impose
\nmeasures affecting Al-Aqsa.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
