Muslim
\ncommunities in the U.S. states of Texas and California are on high alert
\nfollowing a series of attacks targeting mosques, including acts of vandalism
\nand the spray-painting of symbols on mosque walls. These incidents have
\nprompted Muslim leaders to intensify efforts to protect places of worship and
\nenhance the security of their communities.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

These
\nattacks come amid what American Muslims describe as a highly charged
\natmosphere, fueled by the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza and the
\naccompanying surge in hate speech against Muslims and Palestinians across the
\nUnited States.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Edward
\nAhmed Mitchell, Deputy National Director of the Council on American-Islamic
\nRelations (CAIR), stated that the past two years have been \u201cextremely difficult
\nfor American Muslims.\u201d He noted that the scenes of death, destruction, and
\nstarvation in Gaza have left a deep impact, coinciding with growing hostility
\ntoward Muslims and Palestinians.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mitchell
\nrecalled a horrifying hate crime that took place shortly after the war began,
\nwhen a man in Illinois killed a six-year-old Palestinian-American Muslim boy
\nand wounded his mother in a brutal attack.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In
\nTexas, Rawand Abdulghani, a board member of Nueces Mosque in Austin, confirmed
\nthat the recent attacks \u201creflect a troubling rise in Islamophobia since October
\n2023,\u201d pointing out that anti-Palestinian and anti-immigrant rhetoric has
\nfueled such acts.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Surveillance
\ncameras captured a masked individual spraying symbols resembling the Star of
\nDavid on the mosque\u2019s walls. CAIR’s Austin chapter reported that two other
\nmosques were targeted in similar attacks on the same night, describing the
\nincidents as \u201ca disturbing pattern of hate crimes,\u201d and called for increased
\npolice patrols and urgent preventative measures.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In
\nCalifornia, the Islamic Center in the southern part of the state was subjected
\nto a similar attack, involving graffiti and markings on its walls\u2014including the
\nStar of David. The center\u2019s spokesperson, Omar Ricci, described the assault as
\n\u201can attack reflecting the genocidal atmosphere in Gaza.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Los
\nAngeles Police Department has launched an investigation, classifying the
\nincidents as \u201chate crimes,\u201d and has increased patrols around mosques. However,
\nno suspects have been identified so far, and authorities noted that
\nnon-religious sites were also vandalized.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

CAIR
\nrevealed that in 2024 alone, its offices received over 8,600 complaints related
\nto discrimination and attacks against Muslims\u2014the highest number since it began
\ndocumenting such cases in 1996. Employment discrimination topped the list of
\nreported violations.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
