Germany Records Unprecedented Surge in Islamophobia: Over 3,000

A recent
\nreport by “CLAIM,” a German-based network specializing in monitoring
\nanti-Muslim discrimination and Islamophobia, revealed that 3,080 cases of
\nanti-Muslim discrimination or violence were recorded in 2024. This marks a
\nsignificant and alarming increase compared to 1,926 cases in 2023.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

A Thousand Attacks on Mosques<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

In this
\ncontext, Sheikh Taha Suleiman Amer \u2014 President of the Council of Scholars and
\nPreachers in Germany, Chairman of the Committee for Introducing Islam in
\nEurope, and Secretary of the Imams Committee at the International Union of
\nMuslim Scholars \u2014 stated that nearly 1,000 physical attacks are recorded
\nannually against mosques in the country. These incidents range from throwing
\npork meat into mosques, smashing their windows, and issuing threats of arson,
\nto even murdering worshippers in some cases.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Hijab-Wearing Women at Risk<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Amer
\nemphasized that hijab-wearing women are the most targeted and discriminated
\nagainst group. He noted that employment opportunities for them, particularly in
\nschools and the healthcare sector, remain severely limited due to
\ndiscriminatory policies and bullying. He also pointed to the broader challenges
\nMuslims face in securing housing, especially when their Islamic identity is
\nvisibly expressed.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He held
\nfar-right parties responsible for this situation, citing their constant
\nincitement against Muslims under the pretext that Muslims are \u201cattempting to
\nimpose Sharia law in Germany\u201d as the primary driver of the escalating attacks.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Amer
\nalso criticized the media\u2019s negative role in this context, stating that Muslims
\nare immediately blamed whenever a terrorist attack occurs.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He
\nhighlighted the serious psychological toll these practices take, referencing a
\ncase of a Muslim woman (whose name was not disclosed) who was on the verge of
\nsuicide due to racist pressure related to her wearing the hijab.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Murder
\nof Rahma Ayat Shocks Public Opinion<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Among
\nthe most shocking incidents was the murder of young Algerian Muslim woman Rahma
\nAyat in early July in the city of Hanover. She was stabbed multiple times by
\nher German neighbor in what was widely viewed as a hate crime that sparked
\nwidespread outrage.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nreport further stated that Muslims \u2014 estimated to number around 5 million in
\nGermany \u2014 are the least accepted minority among all others, according to recent
\nopinion polls.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nCLAIM network also noted that the rate of anti-Muslim attacks increased
\nfollowing the onset of the genocide, siege, and Israeli aggression on Gaza that
\nbegan on October 7, 2023. The report added that many incidents, particularly in
\nschools, go unreported due to parents’ fears of retaliation and a lack of trust
\nin official institutions and civil society organizations in Germany.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
