Freedom Flotilla to Set Sail Late August Toward Gaza to Break

The
\nGlobal Freedom Flotilla announced that its first mission will set sail on
\nAugust 31 from Spanish ports toward the Gaza Strip, in an unprecedented
\ninternational civilian effort to break the naval blockade imposed by the
\nZionist occupation and to open a humanitarian corridor to the besieged enclave.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

During a
\npress conference held in the Tunisian capital, flotilla member Haifa
\nAl-Mansouri revealed that representatives from 44 countries took part in
\npreparatory meetings in Tunis to organize the flotilla, which brings together
\nfour international initiatives: the Maghreb Freedom Flotilla, the Global
\nCampaign to Return to Gaza, the Southeast Asia Initiative, and the Freedom
\nFlotillas.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Mansouri
\nconfirmed that dozens of civilian boats \u2014 both large and small \u2014 will sail from
\nmultiple ports in a coordinated and unified movement, the first of its kind,
\nwith the aim of breaking the illegal naval blockade and ending the ongoing
\ngenocide and systematic starvation targeting the Palestinian people in Gaza.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

She
\nadded that a second mission of the flotilla will depart from Tunisian ports on
\nSeptember 4, as part of a peaceful international grassroots escalation aiming
\nto establish a sustainable humanitarian maritime corridor.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Thousands of Volunteers and On-Site Training<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

For his
\npart, flotilla member Saif Abu Kishk stated that more than 6,000 activists from
\naround the world have registered to participate through the flotilla\u2019s official
\nplatform. He noted that participants will undergo special training at the
\ndeparture sites, which will also host solidarity activities and civilian
\ncamping events.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Abu
\nKishk emphasized that this initiative constitutes growing pressure on
\ngovernments to act against the blockade imposed on Gaza, through mass
\ninternational and grassroots participation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Systematic Starvation and Repeated Interceptions<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The most
\nrecent attempt to break the blockade came from the \u201cHandala\u201d ship, which was
\nintercepted by Zionist occupation forces in international waters late last
\nJuly, after reaching within 70 nautical miles of Gaza\u2019s shores \u2014 surpassing
\nprevious ships such as the Mavi Marmara (2010), Madeleine, and Al-Dameer.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Since
\nOctober 7, 2023, the Zionist occupation has continued to commit systematic
\nstarvation crimes against Gaza\u2019s residents, reaching a peak on March 2, 2024,
\nwhen all crossings were closed to humanitarian and medical aid. This led to the
\noutbreak of famine and the deaths of 159 Palestinians, including 90 children,
\namid the total collapse of the healthcare and relief sectors in the Strip.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
