Photos Reveal Massacre of Over 600 Rohingya by Arakan Army Amid

In one
\nof the most horrific and silent massacres targeting the Muslim minority in
\nMyanmar, Rohingya activists and human rights organizations have circulated
\nharrowing images documenting a mass killing perpetrated by the separatist
\n“Arakan Army.” The massacre claimed the lives of over 600 Rohingya
\nMuslims in the village of “Tan Shwe Khan,” located in Buthidaung
\nTownship, Rakhine State, western Myanmar, on May 2, 2024, according to the
\nArakan Rohingya National Council (ARNC).<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nrecently surfaced images confirm that the atrocities in Rakhine are neither
\nrumors nor exaggerations\u2014they are a bloody reality unfolding under tight
\ncensorship and a deliberate communication blackout. This has deprived media
\noutlets and rights groups of access, leaving the Rohingya to face death in
\ncomplete silence, far from the world\u2019s gaze.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

According
\nto the ARNC, the victims included women, children, the elderly, people with
\ndisabilities, and pregnant women. Human skeletal remains, fragments of men\u2019s
\nand women\u2019s clothing, and small bones\u2014believed to belong to children\u2014were
\ndiscovered at the site.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Ni San
\nLwin, Vice President of the ARNC, stated that the photos were taken in March,
\nbut could not be shared until some survivors managed to flee to Bangladesh. He
\nadded that the actual death toll may exceed 700 or even 800, with entire
\nfamilies reportedly wiped out.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In
\nheart-wrenching survivor testimonies, it was confirmed that the Arakan Army had
\nforcibly expelled residents from the village, while those who remained were
\nfalsely accused of collaborating with the Myanmar military and then brutally
\nkilled.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

One
\nresident recounted that over 10 members of his family were murdered, with only
\none relative surviving because he happened to be in a nearby village at the
\ntime of the massacre.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Field
\ninvestigations revealed that some bodies were burned using fuel in an attempt
\nto conceal the crime. However, the images survived and were not erased. A
\ndoctor who reviewed the photos suggested that some of the victims were
\nchildren, based on the position and size of the skulls.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Ijaz Min
\nKhant from the organization “Fortify Rights” confirmed they have
\ndocumented testimonies from survivors and a list containing the names of over
\n100 victims. He emphasized that what occurred constitutes a systematic war
\ncrime that requires an urgent international investigation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The ARNC
\nstated it is continuing to collect evidence to hold the perpetrators
\naccountable before international justice and urged the global community to
\nrefer the case to the International Criminal Court (ICC).<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Under
\nthe control of the Arakan Army, the Rohingya suffer from widespread and
\nsystematic abuses, including the closure and seizure of their homes,
\nconfiscation of their property, forced displacement of families, and severe
\nrestrictions on their movement within villages, enforced through military
\ncheckpoints.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nArakan Army launched its military campaign against the Myanmar military in
\nNovember 2023 and has since taken control of 14 out of 17 townships in Rakhine
\nState. The Rohingya have paid a heavy price in this conflict, becoming victims
\nof violence, displacement, and oppression by both warring sides. This comes
\nafter they had already suffered a genocide campaign by the Myanmar military in
\n2017, which forced nearly one million Rohingya to flee to Bangladesh.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
