The
\nCanadian capital, Ottawa, witnessed a horrifying racist assault targeting a
\nhijab-wearing Muslim woman on a bus in the Kanata area, west of the city,
\nsparking widespread condemnation from officials and community organizations.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

According
\nto Ottawa Police in cooperation with the public transit company, the incident
\noccurred on Monday when a white man in his twenties or thirties boarded the bus
\nand directed Islamophobic insults at the woman before slapping her forcefully
\nin front of passengers, threatening to smash her face against the window and
\nkill her, and then left at Banfield Street.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nKanata Islamic Association revealed that the suspect had previously targeted
\nhijab-wearing women in earlier incidents and urged hijab-wearing women and
\nvisible minorities to exercise caution when using public transportation,
\nespecially in the Kanata area.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Islamophobia Unacceptable<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Canadian
\nPrime Minister Mark Carney strongly condemned the incident, describing it as an
\n\u201cunprovoked assault,\u201d affirming that hatred and violence have no place in
\nCanadian society and that the perpetrator must be held accountable.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He
\nadded, \u201cNo one should feel unsafe on their way to work or school,\u201d expressing
\nsolidarity with the victim.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Broad Community Support<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Ottawa
\nMayor Mark Sutcliffe, who spoke with the victim\u2019s family and Muslim community
\nleaders, emphasized the importance of standing united against Islamophobia and
\nensuring a safe environment for everyone.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Ottawa
\nPolice clarified that the \u201cHate and Bias Crimes\u201d unit is investigating the
\nincident in coordination with the victim and Muslim community leaders,
\nstressing that such incidents have a profound impact on diverse communities and
\nthat they will not tolerate any hate or discrimination crimes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
