A report issued by the United Nations Office of the
\nHigh Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on Tuesday revealed that the Myanmar
\narmy has killed approximately 7,100<\/b> Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State
\nsince the military coup in 2021, including one-third women and children.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report described the escalating crisis in Rakhine
\nas a stark reminder of the atrocities committed by the army in 2017, noting a
\nrise in killings, torture, village burnings, and mass forced displacement.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It recorded the arrest of at least 29,560 individuals
\nfor political reasons, confirming that more than 22,000 remain in detention
\nwithout access to fair trial guarantees in military-controlled courts.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report also highlighted the displacement of
\nhundreds of thousands of civilians since hostilities escalated in Rakhine, with
\naround 150,000 Rohingya fleeing to Bangladesh since November 2023, joining
\nnearly one million others who had previously sought refuge in the country.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker T\u00fcrk
\nstated that civilians from the Rohingya and Rakhine communities \u201ccontinue to
\nsuffer the consequences of hostilities, amid widespread patterns of arbitrary
\nattacks by the military,\u201d emphasizing the army\u2019s involvement in forced
\ndisplacement, enforced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, property destruction,
\nand repeated atrocities.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

T\u00fcrk noted that the recurrence of these violations
\noccurs under near-total impunity, adding that videos and images documenting the
\n2017 atrocities are being repeated.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In light of these crimes, the High Commissioner
\nrenewed his call for \u201cthe full situation in Myanmar to be referred to the
\nInternational Criminal Court by the Security Council,\u201d stressing the need for
\nurgent measures to end the violence and provide immediate humanitarian
\nassistance to those affected.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

T\u00fcrk emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian
\nfunding to meet civilian needs and urged member states to pressure relevant
\nparties to allow aid access and support international efforts to hold those
\nresponsible for violations of international law accountable.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
