\nFleet Continues Its Journey to Gaza via Tunisia, Defying the Blockade and

The ships of the Global
\nSteadfast Fleet arrived on Friday at the port of Bizerte in northern Tunisia,
\ncoming from the port of Sidi Bou Said, after overcoming difficult weather
\nconditions in the Mediterranean Sea. This is part of their journey to the Gaza
\nStrip to break the Israeli blockade that has been in place for years.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

According to media reports,
\nhundreds of participants from around 50 countries will spend the night near the
\nport before the convoy continues its journey on Saturday morning toward the
\ncoasts of Gaza, as additional ships from the Maghreb fleet join.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Khaled Boujemaa, a member of the
\nfleet\u2019s steering committee, explained that about 20 ships sailed on Thursday
\nfrom Sidi Bou Said toward Bizerte, while 10 other ships from Spain had arrived
\nearlier. He added that Saturday could witness a \u201cpopular festival to bid
\nfarewell to the fleet if weather conditions improve,\u201d after bad weather caused
\nseveral delays in the departure.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The fleet comprises
\napproximately 36 ships, some still being prepared, with Italian and Spanish
\nboats joining, as well as an Egyptian ship that received special permission
\nfrom Cairo.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Between 500 and 700 activists
\nfrom more than 40 countries are participating in the journey, including human
\nrights advocates and specialists documenting violations of international law.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Accompanying the fleet is an
\nobservation and monitoring boat named after the martyred journalist Shireen Abu
\nAqleh, in honor of Palestinian media victims. From Bizerte, another ship named
\nFatima Hassouna joins for the same symbolic purpose.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The first ships of the fleet had
\nsailed from Barcelona, Spain, in late August, followed by another convoy from
\nthe Italian port of Genoa in early September. This marks the first time such a
\nlarge number of ships are sailing together toward Gaza, after Israel had
\npreviously intercepted and confiscated individual ships.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

This move comes at a time when
\nthe Gaza Strip is facing an unprecedented famine due to Israel\u2019s complete
\nclosure of crossings since March, depriving more than two million Palestinians
\nof food, medicine, and humanitarian aid. Additionally, the ongoing Israeli
\nextermination campaign since October 7, 2023, has resulted in more than 64,000
\ndeaths and 163,000 injuries, most of them women and children, alongside
\nhundreds of civilians dying of starvation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
