The 2024
\nIslamophobia in Europe Report revealed that discrimination against Muslims in
\nEurope has gone beyond isolated incidents, becoming part of state policies,
\nmedia discourse, and security practices, and evolving into a familiar
\nphenomenon.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report was
\nprepared by Anas Bayraqli, an academic at the Turkish-German University, and
\nFred Hafez, an academic at William & Mary College in the United States, and
\nwas published on Thursday. It focused on examining hostility toward Muslims
\nthrough legal, political, media, security, and educational policies,
\nsystematically documenting the practices of discrimination, hatred, and
\nexclusion faced by Muslims in Europe.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

This report, issued
\nindependently for the tenth consecutive year, indicates that anti-Muslim racism
\nis no longer an exceptional issue but has become entrenched within European
\ninstitutions.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report pointed
\nout that the events in the Gaza Strip in 2024, particularly the genocide
\ncommitted by the Israeli occupation, formed the main context for the
\nintensification of Islamophobia in Europe.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In many European
\ncountries, authorities avoided condemning attacks on civilians, banned
\npro-Palestinian demonstrations, criminalized protests, and specifically
\nmonitored Muslim activists.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report
\nemphasizes that hostility toward Muslims is increasingly institutionalized
\nthrough state policies. Data from the European Union Agency for Fundamental
\nRights revealed that nearly half of Muslims in Europe have experienced
\ndiscrimination over the past five years.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The percentage of
\nMuslims reporting discrimination has risen to 47%, compared to 39% in 2016.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report adds that
\nanti-Muslim sentiment is no longer limited to the far-right but has become one
\nof the defining elements of mainstream politics in Europe. The rise of the
\nAustrian Freedom Party, the entry of the Dutch Freedom Party led by the racist politician
\nGeert Wilders into government, along with similar trends in Portugal, Spain,
\nand Finland, are among the most prominent indicators of this shift.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
