South Africa\u2019s Department of
\nInternational Relations and Cooperation announced on Friday that it has
\ndeclared the acting envoy of the Zionist occupation, Ariel Sidman, persona non
\ngrata, in a move reflecting a new escalation in diplomatic tensions between
\nPretoria and the occupation authorities, according to Reuters.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The decision comes within the
\ncontext of South Africa\u2019s firm stance rejecting the policies of the Zionist
\noccupation in the Palestinian territories, particularly following the case
\nSouth Africa filed before the International Court of Justice in December 2023
\nunder the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide,
\naccusing occupation forces of committing serious violations against the
\nPalestinian people.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry stated that the
\nmeasure forms part of a broader review of bilateral relations with the
\noccupation and reflects the South African government\u2019s solidarity with the
\nPalestinians, amid the ongoing assault on the Gaza Strip. It also comes against
\nthe backdrop of growing popular and political positions within South Africa
\nsupporting the Palestinian cause and calling for the occupation authorities to
\nbe held accountable for violations of international humanitarian law.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Declaring a foreign diplomat
\npersona non grata is a formal diplomatic procedure that allows the host state
\nto terminate the diplomat\u2019s presence without providing justification, in
\naccordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The measure is
\noften used as a political signal in situations of heightened diplomatic
\ntension.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

South Africa is historically
\nknown for its support for the Palestinian cause, drawing on its own experience
\nin confronting the apartheid regime. It views the practices of the Zionist
\noccupation against Palestinians as a form of racial discrimination and systematic
