Dutch police have launched an
\nofficial investigation to assess the use of force by one of their officers
\nduring the detention of two hijab-wearing women near a shopping center in the
\ncity of Utrecht, Netherlands. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and
\ndebate across the country.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Widely circulated video footage
\nshows the officer using kicks and a baton to assault the women. The clips
\ndepict the officer grabbing one of the women by the arm and forcibly escorting
\nher, while the other woman records the incident on her phone, before both are
\nsubjected to sudden violence.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement, Utrecht police
\nacknowledged the shocking nature of the footage and stressed that they are
\ntreating the incident with utmost seriousness. The investigation includes
\nreviewing video recordings, surveillance camera footage, and statements from
\nofficers and involved parties.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

According to the police, the
\nincident was preceded by an altercation involving around 20 people. Following
\nthis, a 23-year-old woman was arrested for insulting an officer on duty, and a
\n39-year-old man was detained for obstructing justice and insulting a public
\nofficial. Both individuals are expected to face court proceedings.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

No official charges have yet
\nbeen filed against the officer, who continues to perform his duties pending the
\noutcome of the investigation. Meanwhile, the lawyer representing the two women
\nannounced plans to file a formal complaint against the officer for
\n\u201cdisproportionate use of force,\u201d noting that his clients remain traumatized by
\nthe incident.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The police union urged patience
\nand called for waiting until the investigation is complete, warning against
\nrushing to judgment before all circumstances of the case are clarified.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
