Jordanians Participate in a
\nHunger Strike in Solidarity with Gaza<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Amid the escalating humanitarian tragedy in
\nthe Gaza Strip under siege, starvation, and aggression, the network \u201cWe Are All
\nGaza\u2026 We Are All Palestine\u201d chose to express its rejection of the aggression in
\na different manner, going beyond conventional statements and demonstrations, by
\nlaunching what it called a \u201cvoluntary hunger<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The network announced the global hunger
\nstrike campaign as a form of protest aimed at holding the international
\ncommunity accountable for its moral and humanitarian responsibilities, at a
\nmoment when silence is no longer an acceptable option, according to the
\norganizers of the campaign<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In Jordan, the solidarity movement
\nmanifested itself most strongly, with nine political parties joining the
\ncampaign alongside the Jordanian Writers\u2019 Association. They opened their
\nheadquarters in Amman and several governorates to citizens wishing to participate,
\nin a move considered a clear message to break the international silence and
\nparalysis and to awaken global conscience regarding the tragedy in Gaza<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Broad Political Participation<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The participating parties represented a wide
\nspectrum of political orientations, starting from the Islamic Action Front and
\nthe Workers\u2019 Party, passing through the Communist Party and the Democratic
\nPeople\u2019s Party, and extending to civil and nationalist parties\u2014indicating an
\nexceptional consensus on the Palestinian cause as a unifying national priority<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The choice of the strike\u2019s date was not
\ncoincidental. The first day of the event coincided with the 42nd anniversary of
\nthe Sabra and Shatila massacre in 1982, one of the most heinous crimes
\ncommitted against Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, in an attempt to link Gaza\u2019s
\npresent to the Palestinian diaspora\u2019s past, and to emphasize that the tragedy
\ncontinues and that the nation\u2019s wounded memory remains alive<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The second day of the hunger strike,
\nscheduled for the beginning of the third week of this month in front of the
\nUnited Nations headquarters in Amman, will mark the culmination of the
\ncampaign. A statement will be delivered to the UN Secretary-General, in
\nparallel with similar activities in several countries, sending a message that
\nwhat is happening in Gaza is an international humanitarian issue, not merely a
\nlocal or regional matter<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Israeli occupation forces, supported by the
\nUnited States, are waging a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, which has,
\naccording to preliminary statistics, resulted in over 64,000 martyrs, more than
\n164,000 wounded, over 9,000 missing, along with famine that has claimed
\nhundreds of lives. Meanwhile, more than two million Palestinians are
\nexperiencing forced displacement and widespread destruction<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
