India Uses AI to Demonize

India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
\nhas faced widespread accusations of demonizing Muslims and publicly inciting
\nhatred after releasing an AI-generated video targeting the Muslim minority in
\nnorthern Assam, which is set to hold parliamentary elections next year<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The ruling party used artificial
\nintelligence to produce the video and shared it on the official BJP Assam
\naccount on X, depicting Muslims as illegal immigrants seizing government land
\nin the state<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The video shows men wearing traditional
\nreligious attire and women in hijabs or burqas inside key government sites such
\nas airports, stadiums, and tea plantations. Critics of the video described it
\nas incitement to violence and religious hatred, an attempt to win voters\u2019
\nsupport along communal lines<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, the video linked the
\nopposition Congress Party and its local leader Gaurav Gogoi to Pakistan,
\nshowing the Pakistani flag alongside a speech by Rahul Gandhi, suggesting
\npolitical defamation and accusations of treason<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Hyderabad Member of Parliament Asaduddin
\nOwaisi commented that the video is \u201cdisgusting\u201d and exposes the ruling party\u2019s
\nideology, which views the presence of Muslims in India as a problem. Similarly,
\nCongress spokesperson Lavanya Bhal Jain described the video as racist,
\nemphasizing that the BJP follows a “divide and rule” policy<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Indian academic Abhrovanand described the
\npublic incitement of hatred against Muslims by the ruling party as \u201cfrightening
\nand an explicit call for violence<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Since coming to power in Assam in 2016, the
\nBJP has sought to win the support of the Hindu majority through policies
\nconsidered hostile to Muslims<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Direct accusations have also been leveled
\nagainst Prime Minister Narendra Modi for spreading hate speech. A report by
\nHuman Rights Watch revealed that he used anti-Islamic expressions in 110 out of
\n173 speeches during the 2024 election campaign<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
