Two human rights
\norganizations revealed in a recent report that millions of Muslims in Britain
\nare facing the risk of losing their citizenship due to the significant
\nexpansion of powers granted to British authorities to revoke nationality.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report, prepared
\nby the UK-based Runnymede Trust, which focuses on combating racism and
\ninequality, together with the non-governmental organization Reprieve, stated
\nthat around 9 million people in the United Kingdom are legally at risk of
\nhaving their citizenship revoked, according to estimates issued by the British
\nHome Secretary.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report explained
\nthat this figure represents approximately 13% of the country\u2019s total
\npopulation, noting that these powers are applied disproportionately to
\ncommunities with high Muslim population densities.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The two
\norganizations confirmed that current practices have a greater impact on
\ncommunities of South Asian, Middle Eastern, and African descent, considering
\nthat these policies have turned into a \u201csystemic threat\u201d targeting Muslim
\ncommunities in Britain.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report pointed
\nout that, under the laws currently in force, British citizenship can be revoked
\neven if an individual has no actual connection to another country, provided
\nthey are deemed legally eligible to obtain its nationality.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It noted that
\nindividuals with ties to countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Somalia, and
\nNigeria, in addition to regions of North Africa and the Middle East, are among
\nthe groups most vulnerable to this risk.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

According to the
\nreport, three out of every five non-white individuals are at risk of losing
\ntheir citizenship, compared to one out of every twenty among white Britons.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report also
\nrevealed that more than 200 people have been stripped of their British
\ncitizenship since 2010 on grounds related to the \u201cpublic interest,\u201d the vast
\nmajority of whom were Muslims.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It further
\nhighlighted the Nationality and Borders Act passed in 2022, explaining that it
\ngrants authorities the right to revoke citizenship without prior notice.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In conclusion, the
\ntwo organizations called for an immediate halt to citizenship revocation
\nprocedures, the repeal of the relevant provision in British nationality law,
\nand the full restoration of rights to individuals whose citizenship was
