An Islamic human
\nrights organization active in the Canadian province of Quebec has called for
\nconcrete and serious measures to combat Islamophobia, following an incident in
\nwhich a Muslim taxi driver was threatened with a knife by a passenger.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The National Council
\nof Canadian Muslims (NCCM) stated in a message published on X on Wednesday that
\nthe incident occurred on December 6, when a passenger asked the taxi driver to
\ndisclose his religious beliefs before later threatening him with a knife.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The statement noted
\nthat the attack nearly escalated into a serious crime, but the intervention of
\nanother passenger inside the vehicle prevented serious harm and saved the
\ndriver from imminent danger.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The council
\nhighlighted that warnings have repeatedly been issued in Quebec about the
\nincreasing risks posed by anti-Muslim rhetoric, fueled by certain political and
\nmedia discussions, cautioning against its repercussions on the safety of
\nindividuals and society.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In its statement,
\nthe council said: \u201cEnough is enough. No one in Quebec should live in fear of
\ndeath because of their religion.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It also confirmed
\nthat authorities and security forces have been contacted, emphasizing that
\nefforts are underway to ensure the person who threatened the driver is held
\naccountable.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The National Council
\nof Canadian Muslims called on politicians and leaders to strongly condemn this
\nanti-Muslim attack and to take concrete steps to address hate speech and
\nviolence against Muslims across the country.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

According to CBC
\nNews, NCCM Executive Director Stephen Brown stated that the driver contacted
\nthe organization after the incident, noting that such incidents reflect a
\nworrying increase in violence targeting Muslims.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the
\nMontreal Police said in an official statement that the 39-year-old taxi driver
\nwas threatened with a sharp object by one of the two passengers in his vehicle.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The police explained
\nthat the driver later stopped the car, and the two passengers exited the
\nvehicle. The case has been referred to the hate crimes unit based on the
\ndriver\u2019s report.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\nconfirmed that the search for the suspect and the eyewitness is ongoing, with
