Recent official data
\nhas revealed a concerning increase in attacks on mosques across the UK during
\nthe summer of 2025, with at least 27 incidents documented nationwide,
\nindicating a widening hostility toward Muslims.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The first report
\nissued by the British Muslim Trust (BMT), a government-appointed body
\nmonitoring such incidents, is titled \u201cSummer of Division: Escalating Hatred
\nAgainst Muslims Across the Country\u201d. It describes the situation as an early
\nwarning of a growing threat to the safety and security of British Muslims.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Attacks
\nand Symbols Used<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The attacks were
\nrecorded between July and October and included deliberate arson, projectile
\nthrowing, property vandalism, hanging of crosses and flags, and the spreading
\nof hate slogans on walls.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The timing of the
\nassaults coincided with nationalist campaigns such as \u201cRaise the Flags\u201d and
\n\u201cUnite the Kingdom,\u201d which the report links to anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim

BMT data showed that
\n41% of the incidents involved the use of crosses, UK flags, or Christian
\nslogans aimed at intimidation, while 26% involved direct violence or vandalism,

\nnoted that 15% of the attacks involved graffiti and verbal abuse, and 11% were
\nonline harassment, reflecting the extension of hate speech from digital spaces

\nDistribution of Attacks<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

No single area was a
\nfocal point, but some cities, such as Watford, experienced three attacks over
\nfive days, while incidents were repeated in Birkenhead and Epsom. In Glasgow,
\nthe phrase \u201cScots First\u201d was scrawled on the central mosque\u2019s walls.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The report
\nhighlighted a rapid escalation of attacks, rising from a single incident in
\nJuly to nine attacks in September and October, with assaults shifting from
\nisolated symbolic acts to organized physical violence and public intimidation,
\nusing nationalist and religious symbols.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Wajid Akhtar,
\nSecretary-General of the British Islamic Council, noted that these incidents
\nare linked to increasing collective accusations and the distortion of Muslims\u2019

Muslim women and the
\nelderly reported a growing sense of insecurity, while community leaders spoke

Government figures
\nshowed that hate crimes against Muslims rose by 19% in the year ending March
\n2025, while Tell Mama recorded the highest number of Islamophobic incidents in
\nits history in 2024, with 6,313 cases\u2014a 165% increase over two years.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier in December,
\n40 Labour MPs and independent MPs sent a letter to the Housing Minister urging
